Lead Solutions Engineer, Grid Services Client Success

United States; Boulder, Colorado, United States

How you will make an impact:

As Lead Solutions Engineer on the Grid Solutions Client Success team, you'll deliver end-to-end business and technical solutions to Uplight’s clients. Acting as a cross-functional technical leader, you'll collaborate with Pre-sales and Client Success teams and engage directly with clients to ensure they fully realize the business value of Uplight’s solutions. You’ll also work closely with Product and Industry Solutions teams to advocate for client needs. A solid understanding of energy markets and regulatory challenges is essential. This role requires strategic thinking, organization, and clear communication, reporting to the VP of Delivery and Operations.

How You Will Make an Impact:

Successful Solutions Engineers have a solid understanding of the energy markets, monetization of assets within the broader System Operator ecosystems (ISOs and TSOs), the regulatory landscape, and the challenges facing all stakeholders in the energy ecosystem.

This role involves an ability to think strategically, be highly organized, and be able to dive into technical depths of our product, while being able to clearly communicate and help set expectations to our clients.

  • Be a Product expert of the Uplight Flex product, focused on the Optimizer function, helping optimize our solution to fit our client’s market needs to maximize asset performance.

  • Together with the project delivery and implementation teams, provide detailed product knowledge to customers post-kick off and translate solution architectures into viable system configurations during the project design phase.

  • Work as a liaison with the Product team, helping identify and surface gaps in our functionality identified by our clients and client-facing teams.

  • Work closely with Product to review product designs for large strategic initiatives to ensure their design is aligned with solutions needs.

  • Support seasonal readiness and ad-hoc testing for strategic or critical product releases.

  • Support Product strategy and requirements for solutions in new markets.

  • Review SOWs for emerging markets and nascent solutions to ensure that they accurately reflect our product functionality and are able to deliver the highest value to our customers.

  • Co-lead (along with Industry Solutions) technical solution designs for advanced / non-standard use cases for emerging markets or nascent solutions.

  • Support implementation, configuration and roll out of the end to end solution as needed.

  • Manage the Market Analyst to quantify, document, and track product value delivery (flexibility delivery, tariff savings, WCO revenue) so that we are able to:

    • Benchmark performance and share with Product Management.

    • Report out to the customer for use in day-to-day progress and Business Reviews.

    • Recommend adjustments to the solution design to drive better program performance.

  • Quantify and report on Platform performance (e.g. forecast accuracy, job runtimes)

  • Support testing (incl. post SOW) for all advanced / non-standard technical solutions

  • Product development support, helping collect feedback on the product and its use, collaborate with Product Management on new features, and serve as an internal customer-proxy on new product capabilities and documentation.

What you bring to Uplight (Experience):

  • BS/MS/PhD in computer science, engineering, science or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of experience in a Solutions Architect, Business Analysis, management consulting, consulting, strategy or other relevant experience, ideally in a rapidly-paced top-tier consulting firm, services, or technology-related environment and working with clients in the energy industry.

  • Strong electricity industry knowledge is expected; power markets and trading experience is highly desired

  • Demonstrated success working directly with clients.

  • Capability to quickly grasp customer priorities, perform rapid assessments of clients’ internal technology infrastructure and target business needs with AutoGrid’s application suite

  • Willingness to learn, collaborate, comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities as part of a start-up culture.

  • Ability to understand client use cases and conduct fit / gap assessments relative to Uplight solutions

  • Knowledge of client acceptance and testing for software solutions in the energy space including an ability to define success criteria with clients appropriate to their business and technical needs.

  • Experience deploying SaaS products in enterprise environments and collaborating with multiple diverse stakeholders.

  • Flexibility to work for a global team with clients and team members spread across multiple time zones

  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills plus a passionate, optimistic and a winning attitude is a must.

  • Enthusiasm for client success & excellence.

  • Multilingual - ability to communicate in English and (at least) Italian or Spanish with business level proficiency.
