Global Medical Affairs Lead (Cardiovascular) is responsible for providing comprehensive medical affairs leadership for CV products under development through Phase 3 and prelaunch including preapproval, approvals, launch and post launch phases.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Work with medical and cross-functional colleagues for generating, disseminating, and educating medical experts and key stakeholders on data and scientific information. Key stakeholders include internal colleagues and external groups such as academic institutions, patient advocacy groups, government authorities, NGOs, payers, lobbyists, media outlets, and other relevant organizations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues across Viatris and provide expertise, as may be called upon, for medical discussions.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in the assigned therapy area and assets incl. clinical evidence, standard of care, unmet needs & competitive intelligence. Serve as a key medical resource on the disease area and on specific products.

  • Oversee Innovative product medical strategy, provide guidance, medical inputs and consultation to address medical issues for innovative products.  Conduct medical and clinical reviews for potential innovative in-licensing opportunities.

  • Lead Medical Affairs engagement interfacing with key functions, including Regulatory and Marketing. Own the scientific planning process for innovative products (pre-launch and throughout lifecycle) including strategy for data generation, data dissemination and KOL communications development.

  • Engages in external collaborations in order to gain insight and to facilitate development of our innovative products, life cycle plans and value maximization of our efforts to make a meaningful contribution to health globally.

  • Responsible for review of manuscripts to ensure alignment with strategy and effective communication/presentation in internal and external audiences (e.g. Symposia).

  • Build visibility for the company’s innovative programs and projects through publications and presentations at relevant scientific meetings.

  • Strong cultural understanding of different markets and what it takes to make a positive impact the right way through quality, compliance and integrity.

  • Develop in-year medical tactical plan and manage budget for the global initiatives.

  • Work with priority countries – medical affairs and cross functional colleagues towards support for development plans, launch excellence and post launch medical strategies.

  • Provide TA medical leadership through accountability of strategic medical initiatives for scientific advancement to build evidence, drive growth, risk mitigation, business continuity and TA leadership.

  • Lead functional (e.g. advisory boards, studies, publications, medical communications, medical information, medical education etc.) plans supporting global medical strategy.

  • Conduct KOL mapping and educate KOLs identified regarding clinical trial data, clinical profile and target patient population (TPP). Develop/maintain Global & Key Regional KOL panel, partner with KOLs and scientific associations for execution of key MA strategies. Share and educate KOLs on Clinical trial data and information available to demonstrate clinical advantage vs current SoC for early support.

  • Ensure TA Training & capability development of medical teams across Viatris.

  • Participate in product development strategy and lifecycle management of global key brands. Identify unmet medical needs and provide inputs into ideation process and assessment of new business opportunities.

  • Act as a company scientific representative to engage external scientific leaders, policy makers, patient advocacy groups and/or regulatory authorities.

  • Spread awareness of mortality risk in AMI and need for faster interventions (from onset of symptoms) to minimize damage to heart to CARDs (in secondary and acute care settings).

  • Educate CARDs, acute care providers, hospitalists and GPs on new Tx modality and its impact on improving patient outcomes to ensure local protocol inclusion. Conduct awareness drives for nurses, patients and caregivers to educate about new Tx for recurrent MIs, recognition of initial symptoms of recurrent AMI attack.

  • Educate PAGs on new Tx modality, including MoA, and improved outcomes. Design & develop patient solutions.

  • Ensure robust post-marketing surveillance, PV and RWE generation strategy and approach is in place to drive confidence in prescribing and support reimbursement. Advocate compliance to medical operating model.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Here are the minimum qualifications for this position:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent required. MD, Pharm D or PhD with relevant Cardiovascular specialization preferred. 

  • Minimum 8 to 10 years of Cardiovascular/internal medicine experience is required. Five years of Clinical experience preferred.

  • Understanding of disease area (Cardiovascular), healthcare & pharmaceutical environment.

  • Global medical/commercial governance. Medical cross functions – Safety, clinical, regulatory etc.

  • Experience working in Matrix environment.

  • This role has flexibility to be based in US with domestic and international travel requirements.

  • Proficiency in speaking, comprehending, reading and writing English is required.

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The salary range for this position is $151,000.00 - $314,000.00 USD.
