Financial Aid Specialist - Athletic Coordinator

Position summary:
This position serves and will be responsible for maintaining athletic packaging, reconciliation, and adjustment of funds to include continuous communication with Coaching staff. This position serves as the secondary source of information concerning the William D Ford Direct Loan Programs. The individual will process, package, award, monitor, reduce, and return loan awards when necessary. Will provide support to the Director of Financial Aid and plays an integral part of fulfilling the mission of the institution, by preparing students for success in life.

Position responsibilities:

  • Essential duties will consist of daily interaction with Coaches, the Athletic Director, Residential Life, and Business Office personnel to ensure student athlete accounts are awarded, up to date, and reconciled each term. This includes communicating any issues related to financial aid, need, SAP status or any other problems, which may arise and will impact the students aid.
  • Will send weekly reports to coaches and/or coaching staff regarding missing required documentation for financial aid packaging.
  • Other duties will include the daily processing in federal electronic systems, J1, and PowerFAIDS software, interaction with business office personnel for adjustment of student accounts, and assist with monthly reconciliation of loans as required by the Department of Education.
  • Frequent presentations to large groups of students and parents concerning the regulations for financial aid and FAFSA completion (both on campus and for service area high school workshops);
  • Coordination with faculty and Student Success Director in retention efforts; assists the Ed Financial (third Party Servicer),
  • Director and Assistant Director of Financial Aid in the establishment and management of the campus default management plan and campus-wide default prevention team; and other related duties as assigned.
  • The Coordinator will be the secondary source of information concerning the William D Ford Direct Loan Programs.
  • The individual will process, package, award, monitor, reduce, and return loan awards when necessary.
  • Back-up for student withdrawals and/or withdrawal report.
  • Attend & maintain profession conduct while attending staff meetings and college sponsored events.
  • Attend necessary training and development to remain current in the field, as required.
  • Act as liaison for the financial aid office, with excellent public relation skills in answering daily questions.
  • Will need to work some evenings and some Saturdays during the KC STAR Day Registration events, along with a some evenings for area high school FAFSA events.
