Position Summary   

GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement. 

Position Description  

Our Engineer II is a key member of the engineering staff working across the organization to provide 
a friction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high-quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge using GO/Java, typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between.  

Position Responsibilities  

  As an Engineer II, you will: 

• Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems 

• Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle  

• Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization 

• Utilize programming languages like Go, Java, C#, .NET or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services 

• Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams  

• Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution 

• Analysis and Estimation skills 

 Qualifications  

• Programming experience with at least one modern language such as GO, Java, .NET, C# or other object-oriented languages 

• Experience with troubleshooting tools such as Dynatrace, Sentry, and/or Grafana   

• Experience with Containerization using Docker and/or Kubernetes

• Experience with SQL Queries   

• Experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, Gradle, Artifactory, etc.)  

• Understanding of PowerShell scripting  

• Understanding of micro-services-oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs   

• Understanding of monitoring tools such as Application Insights   

• Understanding of Azure PaaS and IaaS services   

• Understanding of security protocols and products such as of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth   

• Understanding in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture, and Azure DevOps Operational Framework   

• Understanding of Java programming fundamentals   

• Understanding of Web Service APIs   

• Strong problem-solving ability   

• Strong oral and written communication skills   

• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment  

Experience: 

• 2+ years of experience with architecture and design   

• Preferred – Golang, C#, .NET 

• 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
