The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer who acts as a fully competent engineer and performs work involving the application of engineering principles and practices to join our bridge team. A successful candidate will be able to execute complex assignments under minimal supervision, prioritize work tasks to meet scheduled delivery dates, and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously. The candidate will assist in providing oversight and/or technical support to less experienced engineers and EITs supporting team development. The candidate will also have the opportunity to perform the NBIS bridge inspection, structural analysis of highway structures, assist with business development and develop client relationships. Qualified candidates can work from any Ulteig office location, but remote locations will be considered.

 

What You'll Do

  • Apply current, standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks, and support other civil design workflows as necessary on a case-by-case basis.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports that are complete, accurate, and in accordance with municipality requirements.
  • Recommend alterations to development criteria and design features to improve quality.
  • Work closely with and guide engineering technicians and design engineers.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish project goals.
  • Is technically involved with the resolution of design problems including performing field investigations/observations
  • Check design computations performed by the internal civil design team when appropriate.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects.
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability, safety, and risk management considerations.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and record drawings.
  • Work on projects associated with multiple State DOTs.
  • Work closely with project managers, senior engineers, and other team members to ensure successful project delivery with assigned responsibility for the administration of engineering projects
  • Work with clients to understand nuanced technical needs and identify the est feasible solution(s).
  • Support marketing, sales, and business development activities within assigned markets.
  • Participate in team development/recruiting activities
  • May work in the office or the field with up to 50% travel

     

    What We Expect from You

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Master's degree preferred
    • PE license required
    • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience is preferred
    • Previous experience working with or for infrastructure projects is highly preferred
    • Familiarity with design specifications including AAHSTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications is preferred
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation
    • Experience using bridge/structural design software such as OpenBridge Designer, LEAP Bridge, or RISA-3D/STAAD preferred
    • Experience in bridge load ratings and AASHTOWare Bridge rating BrR
    • Maintains positive client relationships
    • Independently completes assigned tasks with minimal supervision
    • Actively manages individual workload
    • Driven toward team success and professional growth
    • Effectively assists in training and mentoring team members
    • National Highway Institute (NHI) coursework (Fracture Critical, Underwater Bridge Inspection, etc.) certification is preferred
    • Excellent verbal/written communication
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Superior interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Must be willing to travel
    • Must have permanent authorization to work in the US
    • Pass pre-employment substance abuse screening and background check

        Additional Opportunity Details:
        Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $91,000- $123,000
        * Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job-specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role, and comparison to other employees already in this role
