Engagement Director, Representation in Clinical Research

What you will do

In this vital role you will combine both internal and external engagement to drive RISE’s mission of enhancing representation in clinical research and advancing health equity. Externally, the role involves developing and managing partnerships with leaders and organizations, such as academic institutions, community groups, and industry stakeholders, to address underrepresentation in clinical research. This includes leading outreach programs, engaging with communities through workshops and forums, and building relationships to co-create impactful initiatives that support community health and wellness. Internally, the role focuses on aligning RISE’s objectives with broader organizational strategies by collaborating across functions and participating in strategic planning. This includes documenting engagement outcomes, providing strategic insights, and raising awareness of key initiatives within the organization. It also involves contributing to the RISE strategy and infrastructure to ensure integration with Amgen’s health equity goals, as well as supporting cross-functional teams to embed RISE’s mission into commercial and global public health efforts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with RISE Executive Director and RISE Leadership Team to design, deliver, and implement a comprehensive external engagement strategy to collaborate with well-positioned leaders and organizations across the ecosystem with a strong understanding of the clinical research landscape and/or strategies to engage underserved populations
  • Identify, establish, nurture and engage potential partners, including academic institutions, community organizations, advocacy groups, and industry stakeholders to foster collaborations that support solutions aimed at addressing root causes of underrepresentation in clinical research
  • Lead the identification of new external opportunities/relationships and establish fit-for-purpose collaborations and lead their connection back to the organization to potentially co-create novel programs that enhance RISEs mission and objectives and support representation in research and community health and wellness
  • Ensure documentation and distribution of external engagement performance (strategy/metrics) and recommend action plans to scale, amplify and improve information sharing
  • Develop key presentations for internal and external meetings
  • Participate in conferences and speaking engagements, as applicable
  • Participate in legislative discussions in collaboration with Government Affairs, as applicable
  • Represent RISE internally/externally to demonstrate and drive RISE’s commitment to improve representation in clinical research
  • Lead and deliver community programs, workshops and forums to build awareness and trust among underrepresented populations
  • Support community-based programs via active in-person participation at local community-focused events
  • Lead and facilitate Community Engagement Focus Groups and Community Engagement National Advisory Boards
  • Lead community partner selection and engage with local organizations to ensure communities have resources to engage with the health system and achieve their full potential in health and wellness
  • Ensure community engagement strategy is shaped in parallel with Amgen’s broader health equity strategy to complement one another
  • Work closely with internal cross functional teams to support integration of RISE objectives into commercial strategy across the portfolio
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure strategic alignment to achieve successful execution of health equity initiatives and deliverables
  • Participate in Global Public Health Leadership Team forums, strategy planning and programs
  • Raises awareness internally of key programs
  • Contribute to the development of the RISE strategy and infrastructure build (new and existing)

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of relevant experience

OR

Master’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability with public speaking, with experience presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Established experience as an advocate or ambassador for Diversity in Clinical Research.
  • Prior experience in roles focused on promoting Diversity in Clinical Trials.
  • Strong background in building and maintaining relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), clinical sites, and clinical study teams.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with both internal and external partners within clinical research settings.
  • Relevant experience working in community or public health initiatives, with an emphasis on outreach and engagement.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40%

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
