Electrical System Engineer
Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater.
Are you a degree qualified Electrical System Engineer with experience of installation and design? Do you have experience of LV/MV/HV systems and are you keen to apply your experience to a nuclear setting?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity at Hinkley Point C!
The Opportunity
At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
We’re looking for an experienced Electrical System Engineer, who will sit within the Review & Acceptance Branch of our Joint Design Office (JDO). The JDO enhances on-site engineering at HPC by quickly addressing construction-related queries and issues, ensuring timely project delivery, and allowing us to deliver an increased scope of work.
In your role, you’ll play a vital role in reviewing and approving engineering queries related to the electrical scope across CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.
While focussed on electrical engineering, you'll collaborate closely with other disciplines and stakeholders, to ensure engineering standards are upheld across the project.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a salary range of £52,000 - £62,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you will be doing
In your role you’ll be responsible for addressing various technical and engineering challenges that arise from the MEH Contractor on-site, ensuring that all responses and actions align with nuclear safety, environmental regulations, and project objectives. This will include:
- Responding to general queries, non-conformances, change requests, and exemption requests from the MEH Contractor with support from the Responsible Designer or site experts as needed.
- Providing oversight to ensure nuclear safety and environmental regulation requirements are met.
- Challenging design decisions to align engineering and design with project strategy.
- Assisting in coordinating support from external organisations.
- Contributing to the resolution and closure of open points.
- Assessing and addressing technical risks.
- Maintaining strong relationships with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer).
Who you are
You have significant experience in electrical design, installation, and commissioning, supported by a degree (or equivalent qualification / experience) in Electrical Engineering.
You’re able to apply multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry, and have a solid understanding of construction and installation practices. You are well-versed in Health & Safety legislation, including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements, and have experience in LV/MV/HV electrical systems.
You excel at influencing a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly in challenging site environments, and are proactive in managing tasks independently. Your ability to identify, report, and escalate issues ensures smooth project delivery and maintains high standards of quality and safety.
