Editor, Random House Worlds - Visual Licensed Publishing (Open to Remote)

We are currently seeking an Editor to join the Random House Worlds imprint to edit 8-12 titles per year for Disney franchises and its associated brands on the licensed nonfiction/visual list. The position provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in a creative and hands-on department, dedicated to creating best-in-class licensed books. We are a highly collaborative team who love to bring our authentic style of nerdery to our favorite pop culture worlds.

 

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Brainstorming, refining, and pitching new project proposals to licensors  
  • Researching and hiring knowledgeable authors, artists, photographers, and other professionals to authentically execute projects 
  • Negotiating with agents and reviewing contract terms 
  • Editorially shaping projects from acquisition to completion 
  • Submitting materials to relevant licensor approval systems  
  • Keeping up-to-date on current pop culture trends and media with tie-in novel potential 
  • Identifying strategic white spaces in the Random House Worlds list and developing projects that expand the diversity of titles we publish  
  • Attending regular meetings with licensors to communicate developments, challenges, and solutions on relevant projects  
  • Positioning works for target readerships, then working with the cover design team, publicity, and marketing to developing publishing plans that reach the widest possible audience 
  • Working with production and managing editorial departments on copyediting, schedule, and design 
  • Preparing sales materials as needed, including brand guides, flap copy, and title information sheets 
  • Handling special projects, backlist titles, and legacy books as assigned 

 

Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Candidates should have demonstrated success in a fast-paced work environment that necessitates managing complicated schedules and personal flexibility.   

  

Random House Worlds is a collaborative publishing environment, and candidates should be comfortable working as part of a team and willing to go the extra mile for authors and licensing partners.   

  

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:   

  • At least 5 years of experience in visual book editorial with a proven track record of collaborating with multiple stakeholders throughout the creative development process
  • Genuine interest and/or experience with Disney and its associated brands and franchises
  • Passion for licensed publishing and pop culture, with an understanding of industry trends
  • Experience in IP and project proposal generation  
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt proposals and content in response to the requirements of licensors 
  • The ability to authentically immerse yourself in a franchise, even for brands with which you do not have prior personal experience 
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, and time-management skills  
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills  
  • Strong ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure in a deadline driven environment  
  • Comfort with Mac and macOS is a plus

 

The PRH office is located in New York, NY. The position is open to remote candidates. 

 

The salary for this position is $73,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
