We are looking for a Director of Sales, Marketing Solutions to join as a founding member of the sales team focused on our  “eastern region”. We are seeking a sales leader who is passionate about games, the game industry and helping game companies market to the players who are most passionate about their games. This is a role where you will be working in a zero to 1 environment to build and grow a new b2b marketing solutions business line at Discord for game publishers and developers in our eastern region.  You will harness your prior experience in advertising/marketing/media spaces and bring a combination of strategic business thinking, game publisher and agency relationships, product insights and an ability to build a significant, recurring book of business with clients. 

This is a senior leadership role where you will be joining the marketing solutions business at the ground level and play a significant role in shaping Discord’s product and business strategy in the media and marketing space.  

This role will report into the Head of Gaming Partnerships & Sales and will have a path to grow into a management role as the marketing solutions line grows.

This is a remote based position, but candidates must be willing to work Eastern Time Zone (ET) hours and regularly travel to meet with customers.

What You'll Be Doing

  • You will be responsible for hitting revenue and account goals for the east coast territory by
    • prospecting and sourcing media buying  opportunities with game publishers, studios, and their media agencies
    • building & deepening relationships with key game publishers and their media agencies
    • negotiating & closing opportunities
    • helping clients achieve business and marketing goals via Discord’s solutions
  • You will define and execute effective and repeatable sales motions and operational processes. You will apply an account planning process to prioritize accounts, grow revenue, educate clients, lead strategic client conversations, and navigate complex relationships.
  • You will create and convey compelling sales presentations and proposals utilizing internal and external data.
  • You will become an expert in Discord solutions and adapt recommendations to suit varying client needs
  • You will be responsible for consulting with clients and contributing to marketing and media plans that enables them to reach their target audiences on Discord.
  • You will demonstrate expertise around the gaming, media, and marketing spaces to clients, within Discord, and in industry forums.
  • Over time you may also be called upon to manage teams.

What You Should Have

  • 10+ years of direct experience in media buying, brand marketing digital advertising, and ad sales in the gaming industry, preferably focused on the eastern region of the US (European experience would be a bonus) 
  • Proven experience in delivering against account and revenue goals
  • Proven experience in overseeing and delivering on goals for significant territories / books of business / verticals
  • Experience in managing gaming clients throughout the funnel with a deep understanding of their challenges and objectives
  • Experience in building relationships with top marketing decision-makers at game publishers and their agencies in the eastern region of the US and possibly Europe 
  • Ability to analyze data and identify insights to assess campaign performance
  • Ability to proactively troubleshoot and problem solve quickly and through the proper escalation channels
  • Experience with marketing and ad technology ecosystem including ability to collect and convey product needs as well as working cross-functionally to diagnose and solve technical problems for clients
  • Experience in negotiating and structuring standard and non-standard ad buying agreements
  • Experience in growing, mentoring, and managing sales teams

The total annual target compensation range for this full-time position is $354,200 to $389,600 + equity + benefits. Our compensation ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the OTE (base salary + target variable compensation) only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
