The Mission

We are seeking a talented Director to join our growing Cloud Architecture & Engineering team. Caylent is rapidly growing our service delivery capabilities supporting our US & Canada customer base and this role will be an integral part of leading and developing strong technical talent. The right candidate is someone who has deep expertise in managing leaders and guiding the overall success for project implementation for our customers. Your mission will be to work alongside other Directors and develop a team of Engineering Managers, Architects, and Engineers. You’ll work with the latest technologies and with disruptive customers looking to bring innovative ideas to the market. 

Your Assignment

Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and execute the technical vision for our AWS cloud practice, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and AWS advancements.
  • Develop standardized reference architectures, patterns, and automation frameworks for AWS workloads.
  • Drive best practices in cloud security, high availability, cost optimization, and operational excellence.
  • Work closely with AWS Solution Architects and Partner teams to stay ahead of emerging AWS technologies.

Hands-On Engineering & Solution Delivery 

  • Design, build, and optimize AWS-based architectures, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Oversee Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementation using Terraform, AWS CDK, and CloudFormation.
  • Architect and implement CI/CD pipelines with tools like GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, and Jenkins.
  • Leverage Kubernetes (EKS), serverless technologies (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions), and event-driven architectures to build modern cloud solutions.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and observability strategies using AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of cloud engineers and architects, ensuring a high level of technical excellence.
  • Establish best practices for DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and cloud automation.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within the team.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a technical advisor to clients, translating business requirements into practical AWS solutions.
  • Lead technical discovery sessions, architecture reviews, and design workshops with customers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including application developers, security engineers, and operations teams, to ensure seamless cloud adoption.

Your Qualifications

Core Cloud & Infrastructure Skills

  • AWS Expertise: Deep experience with AWS services such as VPC, IAM, EC2, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, Route 53, CloudFront, and API Gateway.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Expert in Terraform (preferred), AWS CDK, and CloudFormation for managing cloud infrastructure.
  • Networking: Strong understanding of AWS networking, including VPC design, Transit Gateway, VPNs, Direct Connect, and security groups.

DevOps, Automation & CI/CD

  • Strong experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and Kubernetes (EKS), including Helm and service mesh technologies (Istio, App Mesh).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

Leadership & Communication

  • Proven experience leading a team of engineers and driving cloud adoption at scale.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working within an AWS Partner ecosystem is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.
  • Experience with multi-account AWS architectures using AWS Organizations and Control Tower.
  • Background in cloud-native application modernization, including microservices and event-driven architectures.

Base Salary Range: The expected base salary range for this position is CAD $207,000 - $240,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Additional Compensation Components: In addition to the base salary, the compensation package may include bonuses, commissions, equity, and other incentives. The specific components will vary depending on the role and individual and/or company performance.
