The Technology and Innovation (T&I) Ministry supports Government of Alberta (GoA) departments with information management and technology (IMT) leadership and expertise in IMT services delivery, security, and corporate investment management that enable the GoA to meet business goals and objectives.

The Data and Content Management division is responsible for advancing strategies, policies and programs related to the delivery of data, content management and artificial intelligence technology. The division uses a unified approach to data, decision-making and service delivery across the GoA balanced with individual client needs. This facilitates enhanced data sharing, collaboration, reduction in data duplication and innovation to ensure effective and efficient services across the government to provide better services to Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

As the Director, Data Strategy and Governance, you will be accountable for oversight and implementation of the GoA Data Strategy, enabling data-driven innovation and a data-driven government for the benefit of all Albertans. You will set the strategic direction of data, establish enterprise data governance in all GoA departments, lead the development and operationalization of the data-driven innovation program and provide data advisory services to all stakeholders. In this position, you will be accountable for the publishing and accessing of government data and information, as well as leading implementation of the GoA Data Literacy program enhancing data capabilities across all public service staff.

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Ensuring that Government wide data initiatives and projects are strategically assessed, prioritized, and adhere to data governance principles; enabling departments to meet business goals and objectives, and make more informed decisions using quality data.
  • Setting the strategic direction in establishing data policies and a data governance framework to facilitate data sharing and collaboration with departments and industry.
  • Providing effective leadership, direction, coaching, and support to a high-performing team.
  • Presenting and/or preparing strategic options, recommendations, and solutions to the Executive Director, Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, and Minister regarding data strategy and governance functions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A related university degree (e.g., Business Administration), supplemented by at least seven (7) years of related leadership and strategic planning experience. Equivalencies may be considered.

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills


Assets:

  • Experience in procurement management
  • Experience managing complex programs


Equivalencies are:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of nine (9) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience; or a minimum of eleven (11) years of related experience.

Notes

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).

While this position is eligible for remote work, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta to work remotely.
