Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Data Scientist to join our Data team.

About the role
You will be responsible for developing dashboards, models, and tools to understand cost and utilization trends, and to influence and inform business strategies through effective data visualization and storytelling. You will partner closely with our Market P&L, Tech and Actuarial teams to visualize, segment and analyze claims data to better understand Oscar's medical costs, including building frameworks to quantify avoidable spend and measure and monitor outcomes.
You will report to the Associate Director, Data Analytics.

Pay Transparency:
The base pay for this role is: $119,200 - $156,450 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, company equity grants, and annual performance bonuses.
Responsibilities
- Apply data visualization best practices to build user-friendly dashboards that highlight medical cost utilization trends and outliers
- Use data to tell a story that non-technical colleagues will be able to understand, including packaging and presenting findings clearly and concisely
- Build, maintain, and enhance KPI frameworks to closely monitor financial performance
- Develop standardized, highly governed data sets that are comprised of the most commonly used fields and metrics needed to evaluate medical costs
- Build utilization benchmarks to help drive understanding of actual versus expected performance
- Collaborate with data leaders and business teams to enhance data processes, providing necessary data support to develop strategies for monitoring cost and utilization trend
- Develops data structures and pipelines to organize, collect and standardize data that helps generate insights and addresses reporting needs
- Create models and tools that generate insights to detect healthcare inefficiencies and recommend actions to mitigate them
- Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a technical field OR 1+ years of relevant work experience
- 1+ years experience working with SQL, with the ability to filter, aggregate, and build CTEs, or proficiency in R or Python, including experience with Pandas, for loops, and statistical tests
- 1+ years experience in healthcare, finance or the insurance industry
- 1+ years experience building data models and using more advanced analytics methods, including conducting in depth analysis, rather than simple descriptive analysis
Bonus Points
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written, around business reporting impact and requirements, as demonstrated by experience on at least 2 reporting projects requiring communication between technical and non-technical users
- Master's degree in a technical field
- 1+ years of experience developing dashboards and working with Looker or other business intelligence/data visualization tools
- Knowledge of or previous work experience in medical economics or health insurance
- Exposure to ACA-specific healthcare laws, regulations, and compliance requirements

Pay Transparency: Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, and experience.
