We are seeking an experienced and visionary Data Engineering Manager to lead the development and operational excellence of our cutting-edge self-service data platform. This role will focus on enabling teams across Workiva to seamlessly ingest, transform, and serve data, empowering innovation for application teams and providing value for our customers.

As the manager of this newly established team, you will play a pivotal role in building, growing, and shaping the team of data engineers across Europe and the US. Your leadership will drive the design and implementation of best-in-class self-service experiences that span the platform’s ingestion, transformation, and serving layers. What You’ll Do

Team Leadership and Growth

  • Build and scale a diverse, distributed team of data engineers across Europe and the US

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture that encourages innovation and ownership

  • Drive hiring efforts to attract top talent aligned with the team's mission and vision

Platform Development

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the platform’s ingestion, transformation, and serving layers, ensuring a seamless self-service experience for teams

  • Champion best practices in modern data engineering, including GitOps, automation, observability, and governance

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure platform capabilities meet the needs of application, analytics, and AI/ML use cases

Operational Excellence

  • Establish and enforce operational processes to ensure the platform is reliable, scalable, and secure

  • Develop and implement meaningful metrics to monitor platform adoption, quality of service, and operational health

  • Ensure robust monitoring, alerting, and incident management processes are in place to minimize downtime and optimize performance

Strategic Leadership

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and prioritize platform capabilities and roadmaps

  • Advocate for and implement scalable solutions that align with Workiva’s data strategy

  • Influence organizational alignment and adoption of the platform by effectively communicating its value proposition

What You’ll Need

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

  • 4+ years of related engineering experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing and scaling distributed engineering teams, ideally in a data engineering or platform engineering context

  • Strong expertise in data platforms, including ingestion frameworks (e.g., Airbyte, Kafka), transformation tools (e.g. dbt), and serving layers (e.g., Snowflake, Superset)

  • Track record of delivering high-quality, self-service data solutions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and align a diverse group of engineers

  • Deep understanding of operational processes, observability, and metrics for running production-grade platforms

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on metrics-driven decision-making

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Travel up to 15% to collaborate with teams and represent Workiva at key meetings

  • Flexible remote work supported with reliable internet access

How You’ll Be Rewarded

✅ Salary range in the US: $129,000.00 - $207,000.00

✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually

✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire

✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package

The salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and other relevant factors.
