Data Architect

The Data Architect will play a critical role in designing, developing, and implementing scalable software and data architectures within R1’s technology ecosystem. This role will focus on key areas including cloud-native architecture, data acquisition and management, AI/ML frameworks, front-end and back-end systems, hybrid cloud and on-premise infrastructure, as well as data strategy, governance, security, and compliance.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing AI-powered healthcare software solutions, developing supporting data platform models within a lakehouse architecture, and establishing robust deployment frameworks for customer data onboarding. The architect will also define R1’s data models for value stream products while ensuring data integrity, compliance, security, and privacy. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and external vendors will be essential to drive innovation and maintain alignment with business objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
· Collaborate with the business, product and engineering functions to develop cohesive software and data architecture, applying architecture best practices. Collaborate with product, engineering, and stakeholders on development of data-driven solutions to achieve highly available and high quality software for the enterprise.
· Data Architecture Design and implementation: Develop comprehensive data models, data flow diagrams, and data dictionaries to support efficient data storage, retrieval, and analysis. Define and implement data integration patterns to ensure seamless data exchange between systems.
· Data Strategy Development: Collaborate with stakeholders, including IT, business units, and executive leadership, to define data architecture strategies aligned with the organization's goals, ensuring optimal data integration, management, and accessibility.
· Data Governance and Security: Establish data governance policies, procedures, and best practices to maintain data quality, privacy, and security. Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure adherence to industry regulations and data protection standards.
· Data Integration and Migration: Lead data integration projects, ensuring seamless data migration between legacy systems and new platforms while maintaining data accuracy and consistency.
· Documentation and Communication: Document data architecture designs, guidelines, and standards. Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
· Training and Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data professionals, supporting their professional growth and development within the organization.
Skills
· Strong proficiency in designing data models to support cloud and lake house data management architectures
· Hands on engineering experience building enterprise software solutions using cloud-based data solutions and big data technologies
· Strong working proficiency with cloud solution architecture in AWS, Azure, or GCP
· Strong working proficiency with at least one main stream programming languages, including Python, Java, C#, Spark
· Strong knowledge of software architecture principles and enterprise software patterns
· Strong Proficiency in highly scalable data integration techniques, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
· Hands on engineering experience using data visualization tools and technologies including Power BI, Looker, Microstrategy
· Hands on engineering experience building data pipelines using modern data technologies including Databricks, Airflow, DBT, Snowflake
Other Qualifications
Proficient computer skills (including, but not limited to, spreadsheets, Internet, and email) are required.
· Healthcare Data Expertise: Utilize extensive knowledge of healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, X.12, ICD-10) and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) to guide data architecture design and data governance practices.
· Experience working with globally distributed teams.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and lead initiatives in a strong matrix team structure
· Designing and building software solutions using low code/no code frameworks
For this US-based position, the base pay range is $109,118.00 - $187,269.24 per year . Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.This job is eligible to participate in our annual bonus plan at a target of 20.00%The healthcare system is always evolving — and it’s up to us to use our shared expertise to find new solutions that can keep up.
