Job Description

We’re looking for a Counsel, Data Protection, to join Procore’s fast-growing Global Data Protection & Privacy (GDPP) team in the Legal, Regulatory & Compliance (LRC) Department. In this role, you’ll work with stakeholders across the organization to help protect our customer and employee data, deliver data-driven products and insights, and ensure company-wide compliance with applicable privacy and data protection laws and regulations.

 

As Counsel, Data Protection, you’ll partner with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, Security, HR, Marketing, Product, and Engineering, to provide legal guidance on global initiatives impacting data privacy and security. Your passion for technology and deep knowledge of domestic and international privacy and data protection laws and regulations allows you to provide practical and solutions-oriented advice to your business partners, effectively calculate potential risks, manage workloads, and prioritize multiple business partner demands.

 

This role can be remote or based in one of Procore’s U.S.-based office locations. We’re looking for someone to join us immediately.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide data privacy and security subject-matter expertise and guidance to other LRC team members and cross-functional business partners in Procurement, Security, HR, Marketing, Product, and Engineering
  • Draft and negotiate data protection agreements, advising on privacy and data security in various vendor and commercial transactions, and developing and enhancing processes to support same
  • Help assess and manage risk inherent to third-party relationships and associate those risks with contractual protections as necessary
  • Provide actionable, pragmatic advice to internal clients and external customers on legal risks and obligations under applicable data privacy and security laws and regulations globally (including CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, HIPAA)
  • Use your considerable experience, in collaboration with the Global Data Protection & Privacy team, to enhance, scale, and execute the existing global data protection program, including privacy policies and documentation, monitoring and auditing, and incident response support
  • Stay informed and advise on relevant consumer protection, privacy, and data security laws and regulations, as well as on technological developments and evolving industry standards to ensure an ongoing ability to provide compliance advice
  • Evangelize privacy principles to achieve better privacy integration in the product development lifecycles
  • Lead or support additional projects as needed, potentially including the ongoing ownership of longer-term programs

 

 What We’re Looking For:

  • Must be admitted, active, and in good standing with the state bar in which the position is located, or with another state bar and registered, or eligible to register, as in-house counsel with the state bar in which the position is located
  • 5+ years of proven privacy, data protection, and security experience acquired with a prominent national law firm and in-house legal department
  • Strong knowledge of and understanding of the SaaS environment, both as a reflection of the company’s customers and vendors
  • CIPP, CIPP-EU, CIPM, CIPT, and/or related certifications are a strong plus
  • Passion for technology and energized by the challenges of serving a rapidly scaling company in a dynamic, hyper-growth environment
  • Ability to simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting priorities within a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
  • Strong desire to learn the business and to function integrally as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • High EQ, impeccable professional ethics, integrity, judgment, and demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information
  • Strong ability to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive “can do” attitude to the workplace working collaboratively with other members of the LRC Department and with internal business partners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively counsel internal business partners by providing clear and concise advice and creative solutions to meet business needs

 

 

 

Additional Information

Base Pay Range $166,000 - $228,250. Eligible for Equity Compensation. Procore is committed to offering competitive, fair, and commensurate compensation, and has provided an estimated pay range for this role. Actual compensation will be based on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, education or training, and location.
