We are seeking an Internal Communications Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience within a financial services firm to support employee engagement and community involvement programs. The intern will work closely with our internal communications team to support our annual appreciation gift, wellness, and charitable matching programs. Key takeaways from this role include developing strong communication and organizational skills, gaining practical knowledge of internal communications processes, and contributing to meaningful projects that enhance employee and community relations. This position is ideal for students aspiring to build a career in internal communications within the financial services industry. This is a remote/hybrid internship opportunity for candidates located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.

Primary Job Functions

Employee Engagement Initiatives

  • Support WEG’s annual employee appreciation gift program, including:

    • Assist with internal promotion of the program.

    • Work with team to resolve employee questions or issues.

    • Ensure timely product distribution.

    • Provide support in tracking merchandise, summarizing usage and participation rates, and making recommendations for 2026.

  • Support WEG’s wellness programs, including:

    • Publicize the program across WEG channels.

    • Content creation, such as writing stories highlighting program details and participant successes.

    • Provide support with implementation and tracking of program usage and participation rates.

 Community Involvement

  • Assist with internal and external promotion of WEG Connects activities, including the Charitable Matching Challenge.

  • Update existing program materials, write new content, and ensure message consistency.

  • Ensure nonprofits registry with the Minneapolis Foundation and verify submitted nonprofits align with WEG guidelines. Elevate as needed.

  • Work with Communications Associate to ensure accuracy of nonprofit information and WEG gifts.

  • Identify teams that may be suitable for the Community Involvement Report.

  • Summarize year-end results and create a presentation to share with WEG leadership.

Communications

  • Aid in the creation of additional internal communication resources as needed.

  • Ensure resources are accessible to the appropriate internal audiences within WEG platforms. (Examples include internal logos and images, communications guidelines and basic templates)

Education/Qualifications

  • Preferably pursuing bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field.

  • Preferably students between their junior and senior years.

  • Based in the Twin Cities, MN area with the ability to work onsite in Plymouth, MN headquarters.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, or related software.

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to successfully interact with people at all levels of the organization.

  • Detail oriented, highly organized, problem solver, adaptable, and able to work autonomously.

WEG hires employees and makes decisions about their salary qualifications based on factors such as: the role to be performed; educational and professional experience, qualifications, skills and credentials; tenure, cost-of-living and demand for the role in the applicable market. Thus, the entire salary range for those who are classified as the Intern level is $34,309 to $52,983.
