About the Role/Team

The Director of Commercial Strategy is a key leadership role focused on ensuring Wex is positioned as a market leader within the benefits technology space and market share expansion. This individual will lead the development and execution of commercial strategies, generate data-driven insights to inform decision-making, and optimize sales and marketing effectiveness.

Responsibilities:
 

How you'll make an impact

  • Influence and support Wex’s Health & Benefits GTM strategy, in alignment with overall business objectives.

  • Conduct market analysis, competitive assessments, and customer segmentation to identify growth opportunities and target markets.

  • Develop go-to-market strategies, pricing models, and channel strategies to maximize revenue generation.

  • Drive market research in support of a build, buy, partner approach to expanding market reach.

  • Support content & material development to present to Wex’s executive leadership team and/or board of directors as needed 

  • Collaborate with competitive intelligence resources to monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape to proactively adapt commercial strategies.

  • Develop and implement a robust competitive intelligence program to monitor and analyze competitor activities, industry trends, and emerging technologies, in collaboration with the competitive intelligence & market response team

  • Conduct in-depth research on competitors' products, services, pricing, marketing strategies, and financial performance.

  • Identify potential disruptions, competitive threats, and opportunities, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on advantages.

  • Proactively monitor industry events, conferences, and publications to stay abreast of market developments.

  • Collaborate with sales leaders & key cross functional partners to execute strategic initiatives focused on sales optimization and/or long term revenue growth drivers 

  • Develop and maintain revenue forecasts, in collaboration with finance, and sales projections, incorporating market trends and competitive dynamics.

  • Contribute to the annual budgeting and planning process, providing insights on commercial opportunities and resource allocation 

Experience you'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field; MBA or Master's degree preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial strategy, corporate development, investment banking, sales operations, business analytics, or a related field.

  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful commercial strategies that drive revenue growth.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in leading and managing high-performing teams.

  • Knowledge of CRM systems and marketing automation platforms.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in the software or technology industry.

  • Familiarity with market research methodologies and competitive intelligence.

  • Strong understanding of financial modeling and forecasting

  • Corporate development experience

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
