Job DescriptionSummary

​The Chief Medical Officer will have a highly visible role as the medical and clinical voice representing the Company on Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) industry standards and best practices, emerging trends, new product development and delivery, and serve as an advocate internally and externally for best practices in the field. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will play a pivotal role in driving and executing the clinical vision and strategy of the organization. The Chief Medical Officer will interact with external audiences including clients, payers, pharmacy networks, regulators, and other industry leaders. The Chief Medical Officer will also be accountable for developing and executing PBM client education programs and opinion leader development. This position will manage the clinical team, provide support to sales and marketing efforts, and collaborate across the company to ensure the highest quality of care and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee and manage the clinical team.
  • Drive the execution of the company's clinical vision and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures to enhance patient care and safety.
  • Be an active participant with the P&T committee initiatives and leading the evidence-based guidelines from P&T with company strategic initiatives
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the clinical team.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Provide expert clinical support to the sales and marketing teams.
  • Travel 6 to 8 days per month to meet with clients, attend conferences, and represent the company at industry events.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and deliver clinical content that differentiates MedImpact from other PBMs for promotional materials, presentations, and client meetings.
  • Assist in identifying market opportunities and developing strategies to increase market share and customer satisfaction.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless integration of clinical services with operational, financial, and customer service functions.
  • Develop robust medical/clinical development strategies and support execution and introduction of new or established proprietary products to the industry.
  • Provide medical and subject matter expertise in the areas of pharmacy management and delivery of services, including mastery of the relevant scientific and clinical literature and regulatory environment. 
  • Identify and establish proactive and collaborative relationships with key industry leaders, brokers, and client groups. 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders in the industry.
  • Develop and implement a program for publication in identified publications and industry conference presentations.  
  • Lead team members to support and achieve the objectives and priorities set by the Executive team.
  • Represent the Company and its programs to external audiences, including industry, clients, potential clients, regulatory community, collaborators, affiliates and partners.
  • Select and manage an elite portfolio of research, PBM industry, and other service providers, subject matter experts, and collaborators.   
  • Drives achievement of financial milestones and metrics.

Supervisory Responsibilities        

Manages assigned staff in the segment area. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supports and enforces all company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner, taking corrective action whenever necessary.

Client Responsibilities

This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written).  One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience                                               

MD or DO Degree and Board Certification required.

  • Minimum of 15 years Pharmacy Benefit Management, health plan or closely related industry experience, with at least 15 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Ability to interpret clinical efficacy and adverse event data, including the strengths and weaknesses of study design and the applications of results to the standard of care and clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated experience as a medical educator who embraces peer-to-peer interaction and has a demonstrated ability to cultivate opinion leaders
  • Must be able to successfully articulate the clinical, medical affairs, regulatory and scientific affairs strategies to a wide audience including the CEO, Board of Directors, clients and Company employees.
  • Must have outstanding executive presence, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, clinical guidelines, and pharmaceutical benefits management required.

Other Skills and Abilities                                             

Superior knowledge of executive-level operations management for a corporation preferably in the managed health care environment. Expertise with the advanced functions of Executive Leadership including development of strong working relationships with internal sales and account management as well as the managed care and/or PBM community.

Reasoning Ability                                            

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.    

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Language Skills                                                       

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Location

This is a remote position.

Working Hours

This is a full-time exempt level position requiring one to work the hours needed to get the job done.  Therefore, one must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required.  This may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business.  Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Travel

This position requires frequent domestic and international travel. A valid passport and ability to leave the United States is required.
