The opportunity: 

Sun Life is seeking a Business Analytics Specialist to join the Business Analytics function and help to apply the power of data and analytics to improve business outcomes across the Health and Risk Solutions organization. 

As a Business Analytics Specialist, you will serve as a crucial link between technical teams and business units to promote data-driven decision-making. Your role involves collaborating with business leaders to identify and prioritize challenges that analytics can resolve and effectively communicating these needs to data scientists and engineers. From problem identification to the implementation of analytics models, you will facilitate and contribute to the full lifecycle of AI/ML initiatives, ensuring that the solutions are effectively developed, deployed, monitored, and refined based on business inputs and performance metrics. Success in this role requires strong understanding of health insurance industry, familiarity with data science, project management skills, and strong problem solving and communication abilities. 

How you will contribute: 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and document business workflows, challenges and opportunities for data-driven improvements, leveraging deep understanding of health insurance processes.

  • Lead project scoping efforts and requirement gathering, ensuring business objectives are translated into actionable problem statements for technical teams.

  • Serve as the point of contact during project execution, ensuring clear communication and alignment across cross-functional teams.

  • Assist in the creation, testing, and refinement of AI solutions (e.g., machine learning models, generative AI tools), and ensure iterative improvements based on feedback.

  • Work closely with business teams to implement AI solutions, ensuring seamless integration into existing workflows and measuring effectiveness through KPIs.

  • Manage ongoing monitoring and performance tracking of models in production, working with the data science team to address issues like data drift or performance degradation.

  • Communicate complex technical insights to non-technical stakeholders through clear and concise presentations, ensuring business teams fully understand the solution’s impact.

  • Gather feedback post-implementation to ensure that deployed solutions are meeting business needs and drive necessary iterations.

What you will bring with you: 

  • Proven experience in health insurance industry, with strong domain knowledge in underwriting, claim management, and distribution.

  • Master’s Degree preferred

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including data scientist, data engineers, and business stakeholders (e.g. actuarial, clinical, and sales teams, in a health-focused environment).

  • Comfort working with numbers and data analysis tools (SQL, Python) and Fundamental understanding of AI and analytics models.

  • Excellent project management skills and an entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, data science, or other analytical or quantitative disciples.

  • 2+ years of related experience

  • Southern California region: $95,700 – 143,600 annually 

  • Northern California region: $102,200 – 153,300 annually 

  

If you are a Minnesota, Colorado or Nevada resident, the salary range for this position is $86,600 – 129,600 annually 

If you are an Illinois, Connecticut or Maryland resident, the salary range for this position is $90,700 – 136,100 annually 

If you are Washington, Washington D.C., and Rhode Island resident, the salary range for this position is $95,700 – 143,600 annually 

  

If you are a New York resident within the NYC Metro Area the salary range for this position is $102,200 – 153,300 annually 

If you are a New York resident outside the NYC Metro Area the salary range for this position is $95,700 – 143,600 annually
