The AVP P&C Claims Quality & Compliance is responsible for overseeing the quality assurance and compliance functions within the Housing Claims operation as well as building and implementing a Claim Knowledge Center of Excellence. This role is responsible for setting the vision and strategy for Claims Quality, Compliance, and the Claims Knowledge COE while ensuring that all claims’ processes adhere to regulatory, legal and legislative requirements and internal policies in order to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of claims handling.

The AVP will build and lead a Property Claims Knowledge Center of Excellence to centralize expertise and best practices. This transformational leader will also develop and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the claims process while promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the claims department. This is a remote opportunity.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Lead initiatives to enhance compliance, mitigate risks, and promote a culture of quality and accountability within the organization.

  • Ensure the claims operations organization is compliant with all regulatory requirements and company policies and hold all staff members accountable for compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive compliance programs to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.

  • Develop standards for the claim audit program and schedule claim audits. Ensure the development of technical training for claims team members.

  • In partnership with the Claims Knowledge COE, develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of claims staff.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive compliance training programs for claims staff including training programs for new and tenured claim employees and leaders.

  • Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate compliance risks.

  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to implement technology solutions that support quality and compliance objectives.

  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

  • Prepare and present reports to senior management on the status of quality and compliance initiatives.

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the claim’s quality & compliance leadership team members, managing complex issues as appropriate.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing ongoing feedback, mentorship, and support to ensure the team is skilled and motivated to drive business results across the claims operations.

  • Create an environment built on trust and build a high level of engagement to create followership with peers and drive alignment from within.

  • Lead the Claims organization through change, holding leadership accountable for alignment and leading their teams through change. Proactively explore solutions to complex problems.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align claims operations with quality & compliance objectives and drive organizational success across all teams. Work with peers and other departments to streamline processes and improve overall operations. Lead by example; influence peers, leaders, and others to ensure alignment across claims operations.

  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including claims leadership, legal, and compliance teams.

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as regulators and industry associations, to stay informed of regulatory changes and best practices.

  • Build and lead a Property Claims Knowledge Center of Excellence to centralize expertise and best practices

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the claims process

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience leading and driving change in a highly regulated industry that includes:

    • Claims management, quality assurance, compliance, and experience working and leading teams in multiple lines (areas) of the insurance business.

    • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing insurance claims.

    • Advanced knowledge and experience of state and regulatory compliance regulations.

    • Advanced experience conducting risk assessments and developing controls for multiple lines of the insurance business.

    • Advanced experience in developing and implementing quality assurance and compliance programs.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong people leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate risk to the business / Assurant, to Sr. Leadership and demonstrate good faith efforts.

  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to influence business leader, peers and others, while protecting Assurant and holding business leaders / the team accountable.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Executive presence skills with the ability to map out and tell the claims story/journey to deliver on our promise to customer using good faith behaviors, compliance regulatory guidelines, and state/federal requirements.

  • Professional certification in insurance, compliance, or a related field (e.g., CPCU, AIC, CCEP).

  • Experience with process improvement methodologies, such as Six Sigma or Lean.

  • Experience with claims management systems and technology solutions.

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Pay Range:

$141,400.00 - $236,100.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
