Summary
Anaconda is seeking a talented Associate General Counsel - Commercial to join our rapidly growing company. This includes providing direct work on commercial transactions, including negotiating, drafting, and managing commercial agreements with customers, suppliers, and other key partners, and team-building through both mentoring and building out our commercial legal and broader legal function. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of commercial law, with the ability to balance legal expertise and commercial savvy, work cross-functionally with a dynamic team to solve complex legal issues, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. This role reports to the Chief Legal Officer and is a fully remote opportunity for someone within the US, offering a fantastic opportunity to be an integral member of a small, rapidly scaling legal function of high impact.
What You'll Do
- Be an integral member of company-wide and legal team leadership, helping scale the business and the legal function at Anaconda.
- Lead and grow out the people and processes of the Commercial Legal function, providing high-impact partnership to our revenue teams, including the commercial, mid-market, and enterprise sales teams, the partner and channel-based revenue teams, the customer success team, and the professional services team.
- Help enable Anaconda’s transition towards our value-based selling strategy.
- Drive operational enhancement for supporting GTM contracting, including enhancing processes and improving communication, software implementations and integrations, data tagging and reporting, and more. This includes but is not limited to helping advise our legal operations roadmap as it relates to contract lifecycle management (CLM) use cases, implementation approach and improvements.
- Directly negotiate a number of agreements at any one time, acting as a player-coach for the foreseeable future while continuing to grow and develop the commercial legal function.
- Assist with strategic litigation, when and if necessary, regarding infringing use cases from existing users and prospective customers.
- Spearhead the continued adoption of AI for contract playbooks and markups in a way that is right-sized to help legal team members focus on high-touch, high-judgement areas of their jobs.
- Define and drive commercial legal metrics including contributing towards improvements in key areas such as time to markup, time to close, average deal size, number of touchpoints, and other key commercial and commercial legal metrics.
- Own and manage our key commercial agreement templates, including current and future, and partnering closely with the Product legal function in how these terms stay up to date with product innovations and are integrated appropriately into our product experience.
- Ensure continuing strong relationships and love between Revenue teams and Legal, building, maintaining and enhancing relationships with key Revenue org members and driving a strategy for training, mentorship and career growth for legal team members in the Commercial legal function and broader legal team.
What You Need:
- JD from an accredited law school and bar admission in at least one U.S. state.
- 10+ years relevant legal experience, including multiple years of progressive responsibility in the in-house context.
- Seasoned commercial lawyer with expertise across inbound, outbound, sales and procurement, and emerging legal issues.
- Proven experience building and leading sub-functions within a legal organization, including a focus on building operational processes, systems, and scalable legal solutions.
- Ability to operate as an individual contributor and a leader, demonstrating a hands-on approach and the type of player-coach mentality needed to succeed in a high-growth company .
- A defined point of view on, and high proficiency experience with, issues systemic to data flows and data science, the rise of LLMs, and broader AI-related legal and compliance issues.
- Passion for mentorship and team development, with a commitment to up-skilling existing team members and driving the success of new hires both within and outside of legal.

The US base salary range for this role is $275,000-$350,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed in each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations.
Within the range, individual compensation is determined by various factors, including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter will provide more specific details on the salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
