About the Team
The AP Curriculum and Assessment Team (90+ staff) collaborates with colleagues across College Board to develop, manage, and deliver AP’s 40+ courses in a wide variety of subject areas. AP® is a rigorous academic program built on the commitment, passion, and hard work of students and educators from secondary schools and higher education. AP provides willing and academically prepared high school students with the opportunity to study and learn at the college level. AP’s content leads ensure that course curricula are aligned to higher education expectations and reflect the state of the art in the discipline, contribute to instructional resources and tools for teachers, and develop assessments that allow students in these courses to demonstrate their mastery of course content and skills.
About the Opportunity
As AP embraces emerging technologies, including generative AI, we’re seeking a curious and innovative educator and/or assessment expert to join our team as an Assessment Innovation Lead focused on emerging technologies in STEM subjects. As the Assessment Innovation Lead for AP STEM, you will help bridge the gap between traditional content development and new technologies, working closely with our innovation studio to enhance our item development processes. You'll play a crucial role in shaping how we leverage new tools to support our content teams while ensuring we do so in a way that maintains the high academic standards of AP assessments.
In this role, you will be:
Process Innovation (50%)
Collaborating with Advanced Placement leadership to set the strategy for how we use new technologies to support assessment development
Coordinating and implementing key decisions regarding the content areas, assessment components, and workflows in which we pilot and scale new tools
Partnering with our internal innovation studio and AP content teams to set the vision and determine usage parameters for new content development tools
Developing and documenting best practices for integrating new tools into assessment development for AP STEM courses
Leading initiatives to integrate new tools into the workflows of multiple teams, collaborating closely with Assessment Production and generative AI leaders to lead and manage change
Collaborating with technical teams to evaluate new tools and optimizing for STEM-specific needs
Implementing evidence-based experimentation that aligns with AP operational priorities, continually measuring outcomes to guide improvements
Team Leadership and Training (30%)
Designing and implementing regular trainings to educate STEM content development teams on how to use new tools, disseminate best practices, and gather feedback
Providing just-in-time guidance and support to team members adapting to new tools and processes
Developing processes and trainings to ensure content teams are supported in adopting new tools successfully (e.g., weekly office hours, process documentation, communities of practice, etc.)
Working closely with the Assessment Innovation Lead, AP Humanities in sharing best practices across content development teams to ensure standardization and organization wide success in new technology adoption
Analytics and Reporting (20%)
Partnering with the innovation studio to set and measure adoption, efficiency, and quality metrics to track the impact of innovation efforts
Preparing quarterly reports that measure success against metrics in STEM subjects; identifying strategies for improvement as needed
Deriving learnings about the efficacy of new technologies across STEM subjects and in specific subjects; identifying implications and incorporating into strategies for scaling tool adoption
About You
You have:
A master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or another STEM field (required), Ph.D. preferred
5+ years of experience in educational content development or assessment in STEM subjects
Experience designing new processes and enabling successful adoption
Ability to bridge technical and non-technical conversations; translating user needs into technical requirements and technical concepts into strategies and practices
Natural curiosity about technology and its applications in education
Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive strategic initiatives and achieve organizational goals
A relationship-building approach that’s motivated by a strong, user-centric orientation
Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to independently manage multiple projects in parallel and as a member of a larger team
Systems and routines that guide your daily operations and help you leverage efficiency and productivity
Adaptability in adjusting priorities as new information or challenges arise
A talent for distinguishing between urgent and important tasks, ensuring that the most impactful work aligned with objectives is completed first
Adept problem-solving skills, including using data to inform decisions and actions
Experience with digital tools and learning management systems
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Comfort working with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
An ability to travel 3-5 times per year
Authorization to work in the United States
About Our Process

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $80,000 to $135,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary. Your salary will be carefully determined based on your location, relevant experience, the external labor market, and the pay of College Board employees in similar roles.
