JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State IT is seeking a Workday Senior Professional for the ongoing development and enhancement of Workday Human Capital Management (HCM).   

The position is fully remote within the United States.  Standard working hours are in the eastern time zone.  Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.  The position includes Penn States comprehensive benefit package which includes:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

  • Recommend, configure, and optimize Workday HCM solutions to align with business requirements, enhance system functionality, and drive process improvements. 

  • Proactively anticipate and plan for Workday HCM module enhancements based on a deep understanding of the organization's strategic initiatives and industry best practices. 

  • Stay actively engaged with the Workday community, attending events, webinars, and training to stay ahead of emerging trends and share knowledge with business stakeholders. 

  • Leverage expertise to design and implement innovative, creative solutions to complex HCM-related challenges. 

  • Develop and deliver high-quality written and verbal presentations, reports, and proof-of-concept demonstrations to executives and stakeholders on complex HCM issues. 

  • Utilize deep technical expertise to drive rapid troubleshooting and resolution of critical production issues impacting the HCM modules. 

  • Lead the creation, execution, and documentation of comprehensive test plans to validate system functionality and address defects after updates or configurations. 

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute bi-annual Workday release activities, including testing, configuration, and defect resolution to optimize system performance. 

  • Mentor and provide guidance to the production support team on advanced activities such as service inquiry review, data analysis, transaction corrections, mass processing, and template updates. 

  • Collaborate closely with the technical team to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of HCM-related integrations and reports. 

  • Serve as a Tier 3 subject matter expert, providing advanced support in resolving complex Workday-related service inquiries. ​

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of human resources policies, practices, and activities within the organization. 

  • Foster collaboration across functional teams to build cohesive, optimized cross-functional business processes utilizing Workday. 

  • Demonstrate the ability to provide backup support and cross-training for at least one additional Workday module outside of core HCM expertise. 

  • Actively mentor and transfer knowledge to other team members to build organizational capabilities. 

Qualifications 

This position minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus 6+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Essential skills and experience:   

  • Comprehensive Workday HCM product knowledge to design and recommend end-to-end solutions in Workday. 

  • Experience with Business Process Configuration, Calculated Fields, Basic reporting, and Calculation Engine is necessary.    

  • Ability to work independently on complex or strategic assignments.  

  • Ability to identify how solutions in HCM will impact other Workday functionality, ie, payroll.  

  • Ability to easily identify solutions/services that support and optimize best practices in Workday HCM.  

  • Experience driving a vision for Workday HCM.  

  • Exceptional critical thinking skills and analytical abilities. 

  • Ability to estimate length of time needed to complete work.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and efficiently with system stakeholders

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external teams and stakeholders

  • Ability to facilitate detailed discussions about Workday functionality  

  • Strong technical abilities in Microsoft Office 

  • Ability to use reporting tools and analyze data   

Preferred experience:  

  • 8-10 years of Workday experience 

  • Advanced knowledge of Recruiting or Talent Management Workday modules 

  • Advanced knowledge of Workday Absence Management and Time Off module 

  • Agile experience using Scrum and/or Kanban methodology with Jira.   

  • Functional expertise in one or more area of human resources - absence management, time off, recruiting, or talent management 

  • Workday Pro Certification

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$76,700.00 - $115,100.00
