Job Description:

Conducts a range of comprehensive analysis and research on individual corporations, industries, financial markets and/or economic developments to support business needs and publish high quality research reports/presentations aligned to industries and various markets. Also provides critical insights and industry information to support advisory services.

Depth & Scope:

  • Highly seasoned professional role requiring substantial knowledge / expertise in a complex field and knowledge of broader related areas

  • Takes a lead role in modeling and interpretation of advanced insights within research reports

  • Integrates knowledge of sub-function's overarching strategy in developing solutions across multiple functions or operations

  • Interprets internal/external business challenges and the industry environment, recommends course of action and best practices to improve products, processes, or services

  • Solves or may lead others to solve complex problems; leads efforts or partners with others to develop new solutions

  • Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify solutions

  • Communicates difficult concepts; converts information to compelling business context and advice; influences and gains alignment across increasingly senior stakeholders

  • Acts as a technical expert / lead integrating cross-functional knowledge, impacting the achievement of business objectives

  • Work is guided by policies and industry standards/methods

  • Works autonomously as the lead and guide others within area of expertise

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Masters or PhD preferred

  • CFA designation preferred for publishing analysts and associates

  • 5+ years related experience

Customer Accountabilities:

  • Works closely with the sales and trading group to develop new relationships, and with other analysts and associates to provide ongoing guidance

  • Develops and maintains contacts and relationships in the community and with institutional clients

  • Leads in the compilation and evaluation of multiple data inputs for:

    • Companies/industries and/or

    • Financial markets and economic analysis research reports (e.g., initiating coverage reports, thematic reports, quarterly reporting initiatives, and marketing packages)

  • Publishes high quality, comprehensive analysis and research on industry sectors and companies and/or financial markets and economic development

  • Develops business relationships and generates profits from producing and sharing regular research publications

  • Provides service to clients (internal and external) in the form of information, expertise, analysis, and opinions regarding market information, financial markets, economic outlook, and investment strategies

Shareholder Accountabilities:

  • Keeps abreast of market data, economic information, and key industry developments, as well as internal policies and regulatory standards (as communicated by Compliance) at all times to assist in maximizing profitability through sound and well-informed decisions; develop and maintain contacts with market participants

  • Demonstrates governance, control, and risk management behaviors in alignment with TD policies and practices

  • Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for our business area

  • Ensures respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities

  • Consistently exercises discretion in managing correspondence, information, and all matters of confidentiality; escalate issues where appropriate

  • Participates in cross-functional/enterprise initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk/provide guidance for complex situations

  • Conducts internal and external research projects; support the development/delivery of presentations and communications to management or broader audience

  • Conducts meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs/policies/practices

  • Monitors service, productivity, and assess efficiency levels within own function and implement continuous process/performance improvements where opportunities exist

  • Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate, and/or control functions and ensures alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements

  • Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
