Job Description
Vice President – Builders Risk Specialty
Looking for a self-starter with broad experience in Builders Risk underwriting with an understanding of the integration of engineering and claims into the process, and the profitability of an insurance division. This role is responsible for building and overseeing a national Builders Risk team. Responsibilities include marketing to our key producers, profitability, growing the book and being a point of contact for conflict resolution. This position requires a great deal of underwriting acumen and relationship management skills.
Primary Location: Work from home option is available depending on location.
What you will do:
- Develop and execute a business plan in collaboration with senior management to attain profitable growth in line with the company’s overall strategy.
- Proactively manage and monitor results and key metrics to achieve set goals.
- Lead and manage a team of underwriters, coach and develop the staff.
- Manage the performance for this profit center.
- Handle the referral process for this profit center, managing risks within authority and referring risks outside of authority to senior management as appropriate.
- Develop and manage producer relationships.
- Identify and pursue new opportunities within scope.
- Lines of business underwritten include Builders Risk and some ancillary related lines.
- Possesses an in-depth knowledge of company products and services.
- Ability to clearly articulate C&F’s value proposition and underwriting appetite.
- Participate in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base.
- May participate in projects.
- Travel – up to 30%.
- Other duties as assigned.
What YOU will bring to C&F:
- A minimum of 10 years professional experience both internally and externally with P&C insurance companies.
- Broad experience in Inland Marine underwriting, specifically Builders Risk.
- Experience in underwriting large shared and layered Builders Risk business.
- Established national retail broker relationships within Builders Risk.
- Excellent problem solving/decision making skills with the ability to influence others.
- Self-starter with strong leadership skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid customer service and relationship building skills.
- A proven team player with a drive to succeed.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to develop new business relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software applications.
- Four-year college degree or equivalent is required.
- CPCU and/or other insurance designations highly desired.
- Engineering experience is a plus.

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $151,500 to a maximum of $284,900. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
