The Job:
The Vice President of Category Management/Strategy is responsible for achieving a competitive advantage, customer success, and margin growth and is accountable for converting insights into winning ideas with Customers. This role leads the development of team vision, strategies, and goals, which will drive the development of unique and credible insights that will enable successful execution of our business objectives across key Customers. The successful individual will design & communicate category strategies that align with the global brand strategy, ensuring delivery across all portfolios. The role communicates key market learnings from the customer back to our leaders to drive future strategy and platform work.
- Translation of brand strategy into category strategy & deliverables
- Cross-functional communication and leadership of the category strategy – across the category, product, brand, and commercial/sales teams.
- Understand the trends in the industry & competitors to identify opportunities
- Understand the commercial environment and retailer needs to deliver optimized launches
- Ownership of the overall category to deliver profitable growth
- Marketing budget allocation & management for category.
- Responsibility for the category P&L and business performance reporting (month/qtr.)
- Drive monthly review of business by summarizing data from other teams (financials, POS, UFR, ratings)
- Co-own internal report outs (i.e., PCM with product mgmt.)
- Conduct white space & low/negative margin analysis on the portfolio and support assortment strategy analysis.
- Recommend product changes and white space areas from performance/analysis
- Inform IBP process of strategy/portfolio changes; ensure changes are reflected
- Ensure demand planning is aligned with category growth plans; ops/finance teams are all aligned
- Coordinate cross-functional roadmap reviews; drive NPD prioritization as a brand-agnostic partner
The Person:

- BS in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred
- At least 15+ years of experience in category management, product, brand, or a related field
- Proven ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment, demonstrating strategic thinking and an ability to drive initiatives forward.
- Strong analytical skills, with a record of accomplishment in using data to inform decisions and drive results. Adept at Storytelling with Data
- Demonstrated experience building and developing the process, tools, and technologies that support category management and insights.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels and contributing constructively to strategic discussions.
- Broad understanding of marketing strategies, customer development, supply chain implications, and financial literacy.
- Demonstrated capability to navigate complex organizational structures, translating strategic objectives into operational execution.
- Ability to approach the market with humility and curiosity to dig deep and anticipate issues/opportunities
- Delivering innovations that meet and exceed target end-user needs

- Being end-user and demand space-centric

The base pay range for this position in Maryland is $138,500- $215,000 per year. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
