Position Summary...

We’re looking to hire a Staff Software Engineer for the Member Desk Platform engineering team. The primary role and responsibilities of the candidate is to develop and support new reusable components and services to support the Member Desk applications. The ideal candidate is expected to have a working knowledge of back-end/full-stack system design. Exposure to React or ReactNative mobile development framework is not required, but highly desirable.

About Team: Sam's Tech Member Desk
The Sam's Tech Member Desk engineering team is responsible for building and managing applications and services running at the membership desk across all of US Sam's club. This includes apps to handle membership signups/renewals/upgrades, handle returns and purchase transactions at the member desk.

What you'll do:

  • The primary role and responsibilities of the candidate is to develop and support new reusable components and services to support the Member Desk applications. The ideal candidate is expected to have a working knowledge of back-end/full-stack system design.
  • Build and design highly engaged in-house distributed software applications and Restful microservices that operate at Sam's Club scale in virtualized cloud environment.
  • Engage with teams to ensure coding and development processes are scaling and evolving with modern development, CI-CD, microservices architecture, and engineering practices
  • Maintain and improve the backend Continuous integration and delivery systems including tools such as GitHub and Docker.
  • Troubleshoots business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause); engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues; formulating an action plan; performing actions as designated in the plan; interpreting the results to determine further action; performs root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence of issues; and completing online documentation.
  • Provides support to the business by responding to user's questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies); identifying short- and long-term solutions; facilitating resolutions; and leading cross-functional partnership.
  • Leads the discovery phase of projects to come up with high level design by partnering with the product management, project management, business, and user experience teams; and obtaining cross-function approvals.
  • Utilize   performance   tuning   and   analytics   tools   such as   Splunk and Dynatrace. 


What you'll bring:

  • Exposure to React or ReactNative mobile development framework is not required, but highly desirable.
  • Developing software solutions that impact large-scale operations - Demonstrate a mastery of application development while optimizing today’s coding methodologies to create efficient, consumer-centric solutions. 
  • Drive observability-first solutions as part of the platform offering for the broader in-club offering.
  • Successfully translating requirements into technical solutions.
  • Helping cross-functional teams to solve for business problems and develop solutions that enable us to redefine a “best-in-class” customer experience.
  • Encouraging the project teams that you oversee to work collaboratively and to aim for insight-driven outcomes. 
  • Strong communication and leadership skills

Good to have:

  • System Design & Architecture Knowledge to build/support highly scalable & available apps
  • Exposure to React or ReactNative mobile development framework is not required, but highly desirable.
  • Experience implementing server side nodeJS framework.
  • Experience analyzing logs using SQL like queries and Grafana Framework.
  • Experience of doing load/performance tests and other non-functional testing
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience with messaging system like Kafka
  • Experience with implementing Disaster Recovery Solutions
  • Experience designing software with object-oriented principles. Experience designing and implementing REST API web services.
  • Experience decomposing monolith into microservices architecture

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00
