Job Description

Block is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented US Policy Associate to join our Public Policy team. You will read and analyze State legislation and regulations, write legislative summaries and issue briefs that will help the state policy and central policy teams. 

You will be a part of the broader Global Policy Team, and will report to the Head of Americas Policy. In this role you will support and collaborate with colleagues across policy, including in Government Affairs, Central Policy, Regulatory Affairs, and Community and Policy Partnerships.

You Will:

  • Identify, analyze, and track state legislation and regulations as well as issue trends affecting Block and its community of sellers across the US.

  • Conduct policy research and analysis.

  • Write legislative summaries and issue briefs.

  • Support the public policy team with legislative and regulatory issue tracking and management of related tools and information. 

  • Draft high level legislative and regulatory summaries, issue trend reports, and analysis on relevant state and local policy developments for internal purposes.

  • Assist the state and central policy team to develop thoughtful, inclusive, and cohesive responses to incoming policy hurdles.

  • Have opportunities to support external stakeholder relationships and engagement. 

  • Take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced environment without daily, detailed direction.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 2-5 years of experience in U.S. state government relations, with a preference for experience in the financial services, cryptocurrency, and technology sectors.

  • A work ethic consisting of hard work and attention to detail.

  • An understanding of the state and local legislative and regulatory processes. 

  • Strong research skills (legislative and statutory research experience is a plus).

  • Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and expeditiously.

  • Strong analytical abilities with high attention to detail.

  • Ability to be adaptable to changing timelines and able to prioritize effectively.

  • Ability to synthesize high volumes of information quickly and distill key information for internal audiences.

  • A love of technology, and passion for Block's purpose.

  • Experience navigating complex policy issues.

  • Experience working collaboratively across internal departments.

  • Curiosity and ability to collaborate.

Location

The role is based in the United States and reports to Block’s Head of Americas Policy. 

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $101,500 - USD $152,300
Zone B: USD $94,400 - USD $141,600
Zone C: USD $86,300 - USD $129,500
Zone D: USD $76,200 - USD $114,200
