The US Lead, Medical Information & Medical Review (MI&MR) is accountable for co-developing the strategy and ensuring the execution of Therapeutic Area (TA) aligned MI&MR activities that support Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) and Clinical Development and Medical Affairs’ (CDMA) strategic objectives, specific therapeutic and asset goals, and elevates the BI customer experience. The role is responsible for driving innovation, ensuring alignment, and maintaining operational and executional excellence in the areas of Medical Information and Medical Review.
This role is responsible for ensure there is consistency across all TA for these traditional medical affairs activities. This includes ensuring areas of planning, execution, external collaboration and/or scientific exchange, and insight generation result in demonstrable outcomes aligned to the needs of the overall TA and franchise priorities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Focus:
- Engages with key local and global Human Pharma (HP) stakeholders to align MI content strategy with customer needs and HP Medicine priorities.
- Orchestrates the development of TA-aligned MI resources and supports content development efforts of HP stakeholders.
- Anticipates and adapts MI strategies to meet current customer demands, providing world-class digital and non-digital medical communication resources.
- Analyzes customer interactions to identify actionable insights, directing HP strategy for Commercial and Medical teams to improve information delivery and customer experience.
- Oversees medical reviewers in partnership with HP Operations, Legal Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs to ensure MLR review and approval of assets, maintaining scientific accuracy and alignment with business strategy and FDA guidelines.
Planning & Execution:
- Responsible for coordinating departmental functions such as people management, project prioritization, and execution, and budget oversight.
- Leads strategic collaboration with TA leadership to generate and evaluate insights for determining customer MI needs as part of Medical Affairs and Asset Team planning, oversees the development and management of MI assets, and ensures team integration with TA strategy for seamless MLR review.
- Ensures timely training of MI&MR personnel and supportive functions and manages the MI departmental budget to sustain adequate staffing, training, and resources for executing customer-driven, HP business-aligned objectives.
Partnerships:
- Collaborates with HP business partners and various departments to execute business strategy related to MI&MR deliverables and cross-functional initiatives.
- Represents MI&MR in internal and external meetings to support stakeholder needs and understanding of MI&MR processes.
- Builds partnerships and determines team participation in relevant external professional organizations to drive innovation and enhance Boehringer Ingelheim's reputation for excellence in MI&MR.
Talent Development:
- Responsible for talent management including identification, hiring, development, and retention in alignment with HR and management.
- Maintains a skilled and engaged team and ensures team members understand their roles and deliverables.
Medical Business Leadership:
- Drives innovation, ensures alignment, and maintaining operational and executional excellence in the areas of Medical Information and Medical Review
- Establishes data-driven plans prioritizing and resourcing core areas of MI&MR, ensuring medical affairs strategy is conducted ethically and rigorously.
- Ensures that medical affairs strategy, communication, and insights generation are conducted in a consistent, scientifically rigorous, and ethical manner and challenges the status quo for improved strategic integration.
Requirements
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, and in addition fulfill one of the following education levels:
- Advanced degree (PharmD, NP, PA, Master’s, M.D., DO, Ph.D.)
- Combined BSc. with a MBA, or BSN with an MBA
- Other medically qualified licensure (e.g., RPh, Respiratory Therapist)
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of ten (10) years professional experience in a scientific, clinical, and/or medical space, including: five-plus (5+) years of prior Medical Affairs, Medical Information, Medical Review, or related pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience leading people, initiatives, or projects in a cross-collaborative environment.
- Possesses strong leadership skills, medical/business acumen, and knowledge of US healthcare/pharma, with experience in setting vision and up-skilling in cross-functional teams.
- Understands clinical development, medical affairs functions, product commercialization, and pharmaceutical regulations, with essential US MI practice experience.
- Understanding of internal and external guidelines, including those related to MI, including FDA product promotional guidance; PHRMA Guidance and the OIG; Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Compensation Data
This position offers a base salary typically between $220,000 and $350,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance-based bonus and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits, please click here.
