Role Responsibilities

As the UNIX Analyst, you are an integral role in the development, implementation and administration of information technology (IT) projects or operational work. You will use your diverse IT expertise and experience with the Unix family of operating systems to develop and support hosting solutions for ministry line of business applications and to operate independently on assigned work. You will receive broad guidance on overall scope of work and assistance on more complex situations. In some instances, the position may be responsible for overseeing the work of a junior position.


Responsibilities:
Some of the role’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with clients to determine priorities and requirements and responding to priority changes as required.
  • Participating in testing, debugging and performance tuning.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the underlying technology (i.e. servers, appliances and applications) that is supported by the team.
  • Identifying risks or issues and proactively updating and upgrading the services supported by the team accordingly.
  • Recommending changes or enhancements for applicable information technology services/products.
  • Understanding, interpreting, transferring, translating and resolving customer, system, application and procedure requirements or problems relating to various products and services, resulting in improved process functionality.
  • Working with Team Leads to help build and design forms and workflows to fit Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Standards.
  • Troubleshooting, identifying and resolving issues identified as a result of network and other activities monitoring and logs analysis.

  • The ability to work well in a team environment, lead and mentor junior employees and work within deadline constraints.

Qualifications

Required:

  • University graduation in Computer Sciences or a related field. 
  • 2 years of related Red Hat Linux Systems experience. 


Equivalencies:  Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and four years of related experience. 
  • Or a related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five years of related experience.

 
Assets:

  • Experience in Oracle SOLARIS 11.4
  • Experience in any other Linux Distro.
  • Experience in Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience in Container Computing (i.e., Docker/OpenShift).
  • Experience in Ansible Automation/Script.
  • Experience in VMware virtualization.
  • Experience in Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization.
  • Strong (written and verbal) communication skills to explain IT concepts, consult with stakeholders, and provide guidance.
  • General understanding of IT policies and programs.

Term of Employment:  Permanent, Full-time position. 
 

Hours of Work:  36.25 hrs./week - Monday to Friday 
24/7 on-call rotation is required for this position.
 

Location: Remote across Alberta.
You must reside in Alberta to work remotely.
