Job Description Summary

The candidate will primarily work on research studies funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse that focuses on tobacco and cannabis co-use. This position is a part-time, remote research coordinator position, who will assist the Principal Investigator and Program Manager in the conduct of research studies, data entry, oversight of good clinical practices and organizational tasks. The candidate will be directly involved in the collection of questionnaire, interview, and other research data related to ongoing and future research studies through entirely remote procedures. This role requires being trained on multiple studies and having exceptional organization skills. After hours and weekend work may be required.

Job Description

FLSA: Hourly

Work Schedule: Part Time, Monday - Friday; variable hours

Job Duties:

  • 20% - Oversee the management of data collection and entry functions, either directly or indirectly through oversight provided to research assistants and/or data entry personnel. Prepare reports and present status to the research team at weekly meetings.
  • 20% - Upkeep all databases and calendars used to track and manage study referrals and scheduling. Call potential participants, complete a prescreen questionnaire, and communicate clear information to participants about the study. Schedule visits on team calendar and coordinate with other teams’ schedules as needed.
  • 20% - Coordinate and manage the tracking of all research study participants throughout their duration in the study. Educate potential participants on study procedures at screening visit and ensure their consent to participate is informed. Lead participants through visit activities. Coordinate visit needs and conduct all visit procedures with participants.
  • 10% - Assist the Program Manager, Research Coordinators and other members of the research team with recruitment and advertising efforts (this includes assisting with social media presence, brainstorming recruitment strategies with team members, etc.).
  • 10% - Enter visit and participant data into patient data files including participant study binders, study logs, and electronic databases. Maintain accurate and complete study documentation in compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) standards and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. Verify data entered by other research staff.
  • 5% - Scrutinize on an ongoing basis the effectiveness of study procedures and suggest changes when necessary. Ability to create or make updates to study procedural manuals/guidance documents as needed.
  • 5% - Monitors study documentation on a regular basis for compliance with protocols, SOP’s, federal, state, and local regulations and for safety and effectiveness of research protocol.
  • 5% - Assist in hiring and training of research staff. Supervise and train research staff in research activities such as assessments, informed consent, data collection, and data entry and management.
  • 5% - Perform other duties as required.

MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: A bachelor's degree and one year relevant program experience.

Preferred Training and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in psychology, biology, nursing and other natural, life or health care field is preferred. The ability to collect, organize and analyze information in a clear and concise manner is required.
