The Underwriting Associate will be a part of CNA’s Underwriting Center driving the renewal process for an assigned book of business. Our team underwrites a diverse mix of business and industry classes including Manufacturing,Professional Services, Construction, Financial Institutions, Healthcare, Real Estate, Technology, and more.
This individual will be responsible for the entire underwriting lifecycle, from renewal submission through policy
issuance, within delegated authority.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
1. Performs underwriting analysis and documentation to determine risk eligibility in accordance with company
guidelines and renewal standards, within assigned Letter of Underwriting Authority.
2. Handles endorsement requests within delegated authority. Refers endorsements outside of authority to
underwriter with recommended action. Independently engages agency to clarify intent of endorsement or seek
missing information.
3. Handles renewal book within assigned authority; works independently on renewal book, analyzes
exposures/controls, and takes action steps on renewals within assigned authority.
4. Leveraged as the first-line point of contact to the producers/customers on account related matters.
5. Works as a liaison across CNA to resolve issues (billing and collections; risk control; underwriting services;
guidance from segment and line of business leaders; underwriting services; operations; subject matter experts)
6. Documents assigned files ensuring completeness, compliance and quality (correspondence, proposals,
endorsements, cancellations, etc.).
7. Executes on pricing strategy (i.e. business unit pricing tools) in compliance with regulatory and CNA specific underwriting strategies; responsible for documenting pricing rationale.
8. Expert on systems and workflows. Serves as a resource to others (train, problem solver, coach) and conduit for feedback to internal underwriting partners.
9. Keeps current Line of Business strategies, state/territory issues, regulations and trends.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

basis in person and via telephone and email.
6. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
7. Knowledge of Property and Casualty insurance preferred.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
2. Typically, a minimum of three years of related work experience.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $47,000 to $78,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
