Position Summary
As a Large Commercial Underwriter I, you are responsible for analyzing and underwriting business for Commercial Lines to meet Combined Ratio and capital metric goals. You will be responsible for assisting the Commercial Lines team in underwriting their book of business while assisting in coaching and developing a team of Underwriter Trainee(s). You will utilize your underwriting familiarity and experience to help determine risk acceptability, pricing, underwriting guidelines, developing positive agency relationships within assigned territories, auditing underwriting files and accounts and improving on underwriting processes. Partnering with other departments and your colleagues, you will provide insights and feedback on ways to further improve and develop the products and services Velocity Risk offers.What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities:
Communication – superb skills in writing and verbally communicating
High attention to Detail – focused and attentive to correct data and pinpointing any inaccurate information quickly and efficiently
Highly organized and prioritized – systematic record keeping skills and able to recognize time sensitivity and adapt accordingly
Proven capability for confidentiality
Assisting Underwriter II’s and Senior Undewriters with accountabilities and business goals through effective underwriting practices: risk determination, pricing, coverage, appropriate terms and conditions with defined limits/authority and excellent underwriting guidelines.
Creating stable and productive producer relationships within assigned territories and fostering pre-existing partnerships.
Assisting with account pipelines and pre-underwriting accounts by performing: account qualification and research, creating of modeling requests, forms review, completing risk assessment reports, including pricing recommendations.
Draft quotations, binders, and endorsements
Coach and mentor developing Underwriting Assistants.
Demonstrated Experience for success in this role…
Bachelor’s degree (Risk Management or similar) or equivalent industry experience
3+ years of commercial insurance experience
Professional insurance designations a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

The target salary range for this position is $64,000.00 - $80,000.00 annually.The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
