Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

We are seeking a motivated Undergraduate Research Technician with some experience in molecular techniques to join our lab. The selected candidate will support ongoing projects that explore viral epigenetics using a range of advanced molecular biology and virology techniques. This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply and expand laboratory skills while contributing to research in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Execute and optimize molecular biology techniques such as PCR, quantitative PCR (qPCR), gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extraction, and cell culture.
  • Assist in the design and troubleshooting of experiments, ensuring reproducibility and accuracy of results.
  • Perform cell culture, including maintenance, transfection, and viral infection procedures (if applicable).
  • Conduct quantitative data analysis and assist in the preparation of experimental reports and presentations.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and up-to-date lab notebooks, documenting experimental procedures, results, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with lab members to analyze data, present findings, and discuss ongoing experimental strategies.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents, buffers, and laboratory supplies, ensuring proper inventory and organization.
  • Follow all lab safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment. - (Essential)

Required Competencies

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document protocols and contribute to scientific discussions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, and DNA/RNA extraction.
  • Familiarity with cell culture techniques.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with data organization software such as Excel, GraphPad Prism, etc.
  • Previous experience in a research lab setting is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and regulations.
  • Relevant coursework: Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Advanced Biochemistry
