GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Get trained while receiving pay and benefits – all while working remotely -- in a new Network Specialist Apprenticeship Program being offered by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV).
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
This is an apprenticeship program position and is designed to provide a great head start on a career in Information Technology (IT).
This apprenticeship program lasts for 13 months and provides an opportunity to gain public service work experience and paid on the job learning alongside IT professionals. During the apprenticeship, you will be required to complete specific training courses (168 hours) and on the job learning (2,088 hours) designed to help you develop the skills and competencies essential to supporting the planning, design, development, maintenance, and operation of the agency's network systems.
You’ll be a working member of the agency’s Infrastructure Services team in the IT Services Division. Will progressively learn and perform basic (entry-level) network administration and maintenance work in support of the TxDMV, Information Technology Services Division.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Willingness to learn new and old technologies and development methodologies to successfully complete the requirements of the apprenticeship program
Participates in related instruction designed for the apprenticeship program.
Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule.
Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Currently enrolled in or have completed courses in Computer Science or related information technology field from a college or university. Other information technology related training or experience outside of a college or university may also be acceptable.
This position is required to work onsite at TxDMV Headquarters located in Austin, TX.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within ninety (90) days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
