Transportation Engineer

Description
BETA Group, Inc is looking for a Transportation Engineer to join the team and contribute on a variety of exciting projects. The ideal candidate must be driven, enthusiastic, organized, and detail-oriented engineer. This individual will play a key role in providing technical design that includes roadway, site/civil, bicycle, pedestrian and accessibility improvements in communities throughout New England. To be successful in this role, the applicant will need to be adept in the standards and practices used with local, state, and federal guidelines pertaining to roadway design.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance and manage technical aspects on a variety of transportation and transportation related projects
- Provide planning tasks that include GIS mapping, field data collection, site review,
- Ensure detailed accuracy in engineering plan set up, 3-D design, developing horizontal/vertical alignments, maturity of construction cost estimates, and the preparation of plans & specifications in contracts
- Be a contributing member of a multi-discipline design team by providing technical support and collaborating with members across multiple offices
- Ability to problem solve with moderate supervision
- Provide responsive client service and strong communication, both internally and externally
Preferred location is BETA’s Lincoln office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements
Skills Required:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field
- 5 to 10 years of experience in transportation/civil engineering or transportation planning
- EIT Certification
- Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD and other industry standards and guidelines
- Familiarity with roadway and infrastructure construction practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments
- Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn
- Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience:
- Professional Engineer License
- RIDOT, MassDOT and/or CTDOT design policy guidelines and standards
- Proficient with GIS tools including ESRI ArcMap/ArcPro/AGOL
- Ability to develop clear mapping or other graphics for reports and presentation using Autodesk, ArcGIS, Adobe or other design platforms
- Demonstrated interest in multimodal Transportation Planning/Engineering
- The ability to mentor and train younger staff
