Do you believe in empowering people to reach their full potential? Are you ready to design and implement training strategies that ensure competence and safety in a high-stakes environment?

If you have a passion for developing robust training systems and driving organisational success, this role is for you.

The Opportunity

EDF is at the forefront of the UK's Nuclear New Build Programme, constructing Hinkley Point C in Somerset, which when operational will provide low carbon electricity to 6 million homes in the UK.

We are looking for a Training and Competency Specialist, to ensure that our Commissioning and Operational workforce remains highly skilled, safe, and competent to fulfil their roles.

You will play a crucial part in shaping the capabilities of our team, aligning training programmes with organisational goals, and meeting both internal and external standards.

Your expertise will directly contribute to plant safety, workforce performance, and regulatory compliance, making this a key role in our operations.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a competitive starting salary from £62,000 (negotiable depending on experience), and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll design, implement, and maintain comprehensive competency frameworks tailored to business needs. You’ll conduct job analyses to develop detailed training profiles, ensuring our people meet suitably experienced qualified person (SQEP) standards. Working closely with stakeholders, you’ll identify skill gaps, support role and competency assessments, and collaborate on strategies to address training needs.

You’ll act as the intelligent customer for training design, providing oversight on programme development, and ensuring alignment with regulatory standards through the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT). By validating training programmes, you’ll ensure they are effective, fit for purpose, and compliant with industry regulations.

Your responsibilities will include participating in Training Advisory Committees, audits, and inspections, as well as mentoring and coaching colleagues to foster a culture of continuous learning. You’ll also author and maintain training procedures, ensuring they reflect current best practices and regulatory requirements.

Who you are

We are looking for a proven training professional with a background in designing and implementing systematic training programmes. You should hold a HNC (or have equivalent experience) in Human Resources, Training, Learning & Development, or a relevant technical field, and have experience in the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and the Graded Approach.

With a track record in competency development, you possess strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills. You thrive in managing complex projects, are adept at using Learning Management Systems (LMS), and excel at aligning training initiatives with business goals.

Above all, you’re passionate about creating impactful training strategies that support safety, development, and performance in high-stakes environments.
