Overview

The Technical Writer creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, web-based publications, user sites; may produce content for embedded user assistance technology. Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users. May document engineering processes and specifications. Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements. Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Gather technical and process information through research, interviews with subject matter experts and reviewing business requirements.
  • Organize information and use it to generate clear and concise deliverables which are accessible to end users.
  • Write technical documents and generate other deliverables such as user manuals, training materials, how-to guides, process guides, job aids, release notes, training slide decks and operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Use technology to deliver materials in a format accessible to users including written documents, online help, webpages, wiki-based documentation, presentations, etc.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of published work by adhering to established standards for order, style, formatting, and terminology.
  • Align documentation management process with the established Agile development life cycle.
  • Edit, standardize, proofread grammar, spelling, and make logical changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.
  • Work with illustrations and screen captures to create and communicate complicated technical concepts.
  • Be a resource who leads users to improve the quality of their written materials.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Solid Project Management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starter, with strong confidence level.
  • Ability to accurately perform responsibilities independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individual SMEs or team to achieve results.
  • Ensure the security of confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Presents information and ideas in a thoughtful and compelling manner with individual SMEs or team to achieve results.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as technical writer or similar role.
  • Ability to learn and quickly apply new material.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations with ease.
  • Team player with strong desire to assist others and share knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to troubleshoot problems and find root causes JOB.

DEMANDS:

  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet project and tasks deadlines, as needed (evenings, weekends).
  • Minimal travel required for this role.

Mental Requirements:

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Able to lift up to 30lbs without assistance.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access/connectivity and office setup and maintenance.
  • No adverse environmental conditions are expected.

Base compensation ranges from $78,000 to $100,000 per year. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
