Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and team-oriented Technical Writer-Communications Specialist in support of The Department of Defense (DoD).  This position is remote with the possible travel to Fort Belvoir, VA.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation related to HAZMAT procedures, safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and incident response
  • Create and update SOPs for handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Prepare detailed reports for internal use and regulatory agencies, including incident reports, compliance reports, and audit findings
  • Facilitate effective communication between departments, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed about HAZMAT policies, procedures, and updates
  • Prepare communication materials for external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, the public, and other entities involved in HAZMAT management
  • Design and produce training manuals, presentations, and other materials to support staff education and awareness regarding hazardous materials
  • Create and distribute newsletters, bulletins, and updates related to HAZMAT activities, changes in regulations, or new procedures
  • Ensure that all written materials comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards
  • Assist in preparing documentation for audits and inspections, ensuring that all records are accurate and up-to-date
  • Verify the accuracy and clarity of all written materials, ensuring they are free of errors and provide a clear understanding of HAZMAT processes and requirements
  • Ensure timely dissemination of information to relevant parties, including updates on new procedures, regulations, or safety measures
  • Support HAZMAT program projects by providing documentation related to project plans, progress reports, and final deliverables
  • Assist in drafting communication strategies and materials for responding to HAZMAT incidents, including public notifications and internal briefings
  • Regularly review and update documentation to ensure it reflects current practices, regulations, and organizational needs

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of technical writing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications. Environmental science, or a related field
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain organized documentation systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with various stakeholders and preparing diverse types of documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing communications and documentation in high-stakes or high-security environments, such as government agencies or defense contractors
  • Active certification in technical communication practices and standards, such as Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC)
  • Experience in a DoD or government environment is highly advantageous
  • Master’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications. Environmental science, or a related field

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • US citizenship with active Secret clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

The projected compensation range for this position is $59,400-$98,700. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
