WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Technical Manager will assist with the operational and technical management needs of our Managed Services division. This position will work with the Director of Managed Services to support the day-to-day technical support of dedicated onsite studio and event production teams as well as work directly with clients to facilitate ad hoc technical and engineering projects. This role will coordinate with all departments within the Production Services team to ensure a high level of service delivery to clients. The Technical Manager will support the organization and implementation of all production workflows, engineering, maintenance, and training programs for team members who work onsite at client locations. Travel and after-hours work will be required.
DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with the Director of Managed Services to assess the technical and engineering needs of all Managed Services accounts.
- Work with onsite AVI-SPL personnel and the client team in developing strategy for maintaining, organizing, operating, and troubleshooting all aspects of the client’s production facilities and control rooms.
- Proactively identify ways to refine operational efficiency and workflows to simplify processes for onsite teams as well as our clients.
- Provide guidance on optimizing the setup and configuration of all client control room and studio facilities based on scope of production needs.
- Work with account leads to develop preventative maintenance and facility plans to ensure each location remains operationally ready.
- Oversee the development of location maintenance documentation including daily weekly and monthly checklists, licensing, subscriptions, and equipment inventory.
- Assist with the development and curation of documentation for all accounts including standard operating procedures, workflow processes, booking forms and facility checklists
- Assist with ensuring documentation across all locations is consistently structured, current and available within client owned platforms as well as available to internal resources as needed
- Work in conjunction with the Sr. Manager, Broadcast Engineering and the Director of Managed Services to lead, design and implement training programs to develop personnel and ensure they have the skillset and knowledge to effectively perform their role.
- Provide guidance and support to management roles who are responsible for training and developing onsite operations and engineering roles to ensure consistency of training program and best practices across all account locations
- Provide recommendations for advancing skillsets and training opportunities for all personnel as well as execute training needs recommended by client.
- Ensure all personnel follow proper procedures for ticketing and other reporting systems
- Assist with the development of freelance pools for backfill and back up support
- Work directly with clients for out-of-contract engineering and technical needs, provide necessary guidance to ensure a successful project and coordinate with various roles and teams within Production Services and AVI-SPL Global Services to execute
- Ensure timelines and delivery of required deliverables are met for all technical projects
- Participate in brainstorming ideas and solutions to enhance services offered to established and prospective clients
- Help to raise questions and concerns and offer solutions on how to increase efficiency in process development and operations
- Continuously assess and recommend solutions about functionality of studio and event spaces based on operational requirements and event scope.
- Provide ongoing feedback on how to enhance event experiences for attendees and presenters including in-person, hybrid, and virtual event logistics.
- Provide client with recommendations on event industry best practices and operational standards.
- Work with Managed Services team to assess new accounts, participate in discovery sessions and contribute to implementing technical strategy and tailored solution for new teams.
- Provide backfill support for production needs as required
- Contribute to overseeing the progress and cost effectiveness of all productions within the department, and provide guidance and support to meet goals and revenue objectives
- Contribute to ensuring the successful renewal of all Managed Services accounts
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Must-Haves:
- High technical skill set with at least 5 years of experience in production, broadcast, audio-visual events or similar field.
- Video engineering and audio-visual technical management experience.
- Experience with operating control room equipment including video switchers, audio consoles, and video playback software
- Experience in project management including coordinating logistics with multiple entities, vendors or departments
- Ability to communicate challenging aspects to stakeholders while maintaining a high level of confidence and leadership.
- Proficient working with spreadsheets, documents, and presentation tools, and experience with providing reporting and forecasts
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude, even during pressure situations
- Track record of being organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and working well in a team atmosphere, as well as having the capability to work well individually, is essential
- Strong work ethic, self-direction, self-motivation, patience, persistence and the ability to get along with coworkers and customers
- Excellent customer relationship skills, providing white glove service to clients
- Consistent, proactive preparation and responds in a timely manner to multiple channels of communication
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing needs and evolving business processes
- Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams including functional leads
- Process minded: define process, layout plan and execute

- Strong written skills, to always communicate in the correct tone of voice via email, website updates, and instant messaging
- Able to work flexible hours to support clients regardless of global location
Nice-To-Haves:
- College degree in video production, broadcast television, communications, or similar field.
- Experience with live studio and event production workflows and roles, including planning and coordination, day of operations and engineering maintenance
- Experience with Ross production environments and video switchers
- Experience with audio production systems including Yamaha audio consoles, Dante audio routing networks, Shure microphones, and intercom systems
