Technical Editor

About the Position
We are seeking an experienced and successful Senior Technical Editor & Specification Writer who will work alongside our engineering and project teams to produce exceptional technical documentation. In this role, you’ll draft, review, and edit key project specifications, reports, and official communications—including documents that are sent to legislators. Your work ensures all documentation is clear, precise, and meets high industry standards.
This is a one year, part-time (10-20 hours per week), on-site, hybrid, or remote position located in Oakland, CA.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to review, refine, and edit technical documentation and project specifications for roadway, civil, bridge, and structural projects.
- Develop detailed documents and reports that clearly articulate technical and project information.
- Review and edit official documents destined for legislators, ensuring each communication is accurate, accessible, and impactful.
- Coordinate revisions and feedback across multiple teams to maintain consistent, high-quality documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Keep all project documentation updated in accordance with evolving standards and project milestones.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience in technical editing and specification writing for engineering in transit/transportation (DOT) projects.
- Familiarity with industry standards for technical documentation and civil engineering specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering or Technical Communication.
- Experience working on large, complex transportation infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with project management and document control software.
- In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements, including previous experience collaborating with agencies such as Caltrans.
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for this role is $83k-$135/yr ($40-$62/hr.) The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidate’s level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc. If you are qualified for the role, please apply.
