The Opportunity

 

Join our Technical Advice Group (TAG) at Hartlepool Power Station as a Technical Advice Engineer and become part of a dynamic, multi-skilled team of experienced and highly motivated engineers. Together, we provide technical oversight and support for both planned and emergent work.

 

Collaborate closely with the defect rectification team (DART), offering technical guidance and advice. Provide technical support to the wider station organisation. Interface with the safety case management process and produce engineering changes (EC) in response to emergent issues. Work with the operations department to identify and address station priorities, supporting the operational focus indicator. Partner with engineering colleagues to optimise equipment reliability. Perform and support first-line fault finding in the field. Arrange contractors and provide field supervision.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years. 

 

Pay, benefits and culture

 

The salary range associated with this role is between £44,112 - £78,541 however the starting salary for this appointment will be within the range of £44,112 - £66,648 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

What you’ll be doing

 

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Technical Advice Group (TAG), you'll ensure the high availability of plant systems by diagnosing and rectifying faults on mechanical equipment. You'll act as a technical expert, providing advice to Operations and key stakeholders, and support obsolescence and aging programs.

 

You'll become a subject matter expert and advocate for station decision-making processes, including "risk of trip" and troubleshooting. Reporting to the Technical Advice Group Head, you'll address emerging technical issues and ensure adherence to Company Technical Standards.

 

Your responsibilities will include engaging with daily Operations Focus Meetings, liaising with Engineering Groups to resolve issues, facilitating effective communication with stakeholders, and participating in the work management and corrective action programs.

 

Who you are

 

The minimum qualification acceptable is an HNC in Engineering (or a related discipline). An Honours Degree would be advantageous.

 

You should possess a sound knowledge of the operation, engineering, and maintenance aspects of power generation plant systems or similar highly regulated environment. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, as the role requires developing relationships and positively encouraging team working. Familiarity with company technical standards and processes, such as troubleshooting, risk management, and decision-making, is also important.

 

An analytical approach with a "can do" problem-solving ability is highly valued. Knowledge of one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: project management, mechanical principles, plant maintenance principles, risk assessment, and risk mitigation. Depending on experience, the successful applicant may be expected to provide supervision to other engineers and technicians within the group.
