Department Overview:

The mission of the Information School (iSchool) is to educate responsible leaders, critical thinkers, and creative innovators in the information professions who are adept in the creation, retrieval, use, and curation of information in all its forms, who are able to provide access to and understanding of information for all those who need or seek it, and who contribute to individual and collective knowledge, productivity, and well-being;

create and disseminate research about past, present, and future information users and uses, the processes and technologies vital for information management and use, and the economies, cultures, and policies that affect information and access to it;

contribute to the development of the faculties of information schools through a doctoral program built on interdisciplinary research and teaching excellence; and provide useful service to information professionals, the people of Wisconsin, and all information users.

Schedule:

Mon & Wed 8:00-9:15am during lecture and 2 sections of discussion; other hours TBD. Discussion sections are Thurs 8:00-8:50am, Wed 1:20-2:10pm, Wed 9:55-10:45am, Mon 1:20-2:10pm, Fri 11-11:50am. Office hours will follow University guidelines related to meeting requirements.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$13,194 gross pay based on 50% FTE (20 hours/week) at an academic base rate of $53,050

Qualifications:

Applicants must be graduate students with excellent English oral and written communication skills, excellent research and reading skills. Experience with online or in-person teaching or learning required. International students who have not received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution are required to provide English proficiency test score of 26/30 or higher on the speaking section of the iBt TOEFL test, 8.0 or higher on the speaking section of the IELTS, or a score of 50 or higher on the SPEAK test.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required: Proficiency with Canvas course management system assignment creation and management, and gradebook management. Students should have an interest in and basic understanding of the ways in which computational and information communication technologies interact with important social structures, organizations, history, and law. Students should also have excellent written and oral communications proficiency.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Assist the course instructor in operation of the course, including: attend and participate in each lecture and two assigned discussion sections each week, complete weekly readings, grade weekly discussions, grade papers, manage daily interactions with students (via email and office hours).
