Tax Specialist, Global Tax Advisory

How You Will Contribute:

As a Tax Specialist at Ciena, you will play a pivotal role in our Global Tax and Trade team, collaborating across functions and with external partners on diverse tax projects impacting our global operations. Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Tax, you'll contribute to the research, development, implementation, and documentation of tax strategies that align with Ciena’s business objectives and optimize our global tax position. You'll be a key player in navigating the complexities of US and international taxation within the dynamic high-tech/telecom landscape.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Internal Tax Advisory: Conduct in-depth research of domestic and foreign tax laws, regulations, judicial decisions, and administrative guidance. Develop and communicate clear, actionable recommendations to manage tax implications of critical business decisions, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.

  • Strategic Tax Planning: Collaborate on global tax initiatives that directly support Ciena's business goals. Identify opportunities for tax optimization, provide expert guidance, and drive the delivery of innovative tax solutions, with a focus on the unique challenges and opportunities within the tech/telecom sector.

  • Transfer Pricing: Maintain a strong understanding of transfer pricing regulations and apply these principles to develop strategies that align with Ciena's business objectives and optimize our tax position.

  • Business Partnering: Collaborate with tax seniors/managers and external advisors to implement new tax requirements and provide guidance related to tax reporting and compliance. Act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on tax-related matters.

  • Transaction Support: Support transaction due diligence, assess tax impacts, and review legal documentation, with a focus on M&A activity common in the high-tech/telecom industry.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Finance, FP&A, Treasury, HR, and other departments to ensure tax considerations are integrated into key business decisions.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation required.

  • MST, MBA, CPA, and/or JD certification is a significant plus.

  • 5+ years of proven operational experience at a complex global enterprise or as a manager (or equivalent) at a major accounting or law firm advising multinational organizations on tax matters.

  • Expert proficiency in U.S. and international corporate tax rules, including transfer pricing, with specific experience in the high-tech/telecom industry.

  • Strong experience in implementing tax technology solutions, automation, and transformation initiatives.

  • Experience with international tax compliance, including BEPS and country-by-country reporting is highly desirable.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and advanced tax research tools.

  • Familiarity with Oracle, Workday, OneSource, CorpTax, Looker, Snowflake, Alteryx, and other tax technology automation tools is highly desirable.

Pay Range:

The annual pay range for this position in the USA is $84, 700 - $135, 300

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
