Job Description

HII- Mission Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Taiwanese Cultural and Language Advisor (Part-Time) to support security cooperation efforts. This role requires native proficiency in Taiwanese (Hokkien) and Mandarin Chinese, strong English skills, and U.S. citizenship. The advisor will act as a liaison between U.S. and Taiwanese stakeholders, providing expert-level translation, interpretation, and cultural insight while analyzing conversational sentiment. Candidates must have experience in multicultural environments and possess the ability to navigate complex cultural and linguistic nuances.
 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Translate, interpret and analyze oral and written material such as sensitive reports, data, briefings and conversations. Provide translation in written or oral form. Analyze data for coded patterns of information. Interpret data for information for a range of deductions encompassing breadth of subjects.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between U.S. and Taiwanese stakeholders, ensuring clear, accurate, and culturally sensitive communication.
  • Conduct real-time interpretation (spoken) and translation (written) between Taiwanese, Mandarin, and English, ensuring fidelity to both language and intent.
  • Analyze conversational sentiment, tone, and context to ensure effective communication.
  • Provide insights and advice on navigating Taiwanese cultural, political, and business environments.
  • Facilitate meetings, negotiations, and engagements by bridging linguistic and cultural gaps between U.S. and Taiwanese teams.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of Taiwanese import forms and other trade-related documentation to ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Monitor and report on key developments in Taiwanese society, politics, and business to inform strategic decisions.
  • Develop and deliver cultural training and briefing materials for U.S. personnel engaging with Taiwanese counterparts.
  • Familiarity with Taiwanese business culture, regulatory frameworks, and trade compliance processes.
     

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience.
  • Native fluency in Taiwanese (Hokkien) and Mandarin Chinese, with strong proficiency in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate complex concepts across Taiwanese, Mandarin, and English languages while maintaining cultural and contextual accuracy.
  • Deep understanding of Taiwanese culture, societal norms, government structures, and conversational dynamics.
  • Proven experience in cross-cultural liaison roles, with an emphasis on communication and relationship-building.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing conversational sentiment, tone, and intent in both English and Taiwanese.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Clearance- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) clearance.

Preferred Requirements

  • Familiarity with Taiwanese business culture, regulatory frameworks, and trade compliance processes.
  • Experience supporting U.S.-Taiwan trade operations, or international business initiatives.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Department of Defense security cooperation policies and procedures.
