Systems Engineer

Leidos CIO is looking for an experienced and motivated Systems Engineer to join our growing Systems Engineering team. In this role, you will partner with project teams and the wider CIO teams to guide, mentor, and grow our Systems Engineering practice and processes. You will help the teams to tailor our standard processes to their projects to improve the quality and affordability of delivered solutions. You will engage with teams to help build SYSML Models of projects using Cameo Systems Modeler. You should have prior experience in the role of a System Engineer on medium sized projects using both waterfall and agile project methodologies. This position is open to 100% telecommute.
Primary Responsibilities
Executing systems engineering activities for projects as requested. This includes:
Building traditional artifacts such as: Concept and System Definition, Requirements Definition, System Design & Architecture, Verification & Validation, Risk Management, System Integration, Technical Decision Making and Trade Studies.
Building SYSML Models of IT solutions using Cameo Systems Modeler
Assisting in development of CONOPS, requirements, and design for projects.
Mentoring engineers on specific System Engineering disciplines, artifacts, SYSML modeling and encourage the development of a System Engineering mindset.
Growing to lead other Systems Engineers on the portfolio of projects we support.
Advising leadership on projects that deviate from approved SE best practices.
Working with the wider team to define and tailor the System Engineering process for CIO projects and teams and for various multiple development methodologies including Scrum Agile, SAFe Agile, and Waterfall.
Providing a process bridge between System Engineering and the Program Management Office (for the PLC).
Assisting projects tailor the standard processes and artifacts for their needs.
Working to identify the engineering artifacts required for the project based on its size and complexity.
Collaborating with System Engineering TCC, SECoP and Leidos EngineeringEdge teams.
Planning and conducting Artifact and Process Reviews if Requested.
Conducting Lunch-and-learn Training on Systems Engineering Best Practice Processes & Procedures.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and at least 12 years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience as System Engineering lead for complex medium sized projects, or team lead for a major segment of a large project.
Comprehensive understanding of System Engineering principles, practices and lifecycles; detailed understanding of most System Engineering competency areas.
Experience modeling IT systems, networks, or software architectures in SYSML using Cameo Systems Modeler.
Experience using different Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) frameworks and approaches.
Hands-on experience working with internal or external customers.
Demonstrate strong verbal and written communications skills.
Excellent facilitation skills to address project needs, risk and issues
Ability to lead teams and meetings to help build solutions.
Ability to influence and build team consensus to achieve on project and organizational goals
Capable of effectively planning and prioritizing tasking and communicating clearly regarding technical options and trade-offs.
Capable of performing high quality work both independently and with a team in a fast-moving environment.
Occasional travel may be required .
Must be US citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with one or more of the following: technical documentation development; Test Driven Development (TDD) experience;
Prior experience in Process Flow documentation.
Systems Engineering discipline (INCOSE)
Agile Methodology & Framework Knowledge (ie. Scrum, SAFe) having acted as a member of an agile team.
Project Management discipline (PMP).
Experience coaching product delivery teams.
Experience in metrics-based continual process improvement
For internal candidates, experience with Leidos EngineeringEdge a plus.
Familiarity with Lean Systems Engineering principles and practices

Pay Range:
Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
