Sustainability Data & Communications Intern
Remote
Who You Are: You are someone with a passion for leveraging business as a force for good. You are a systems thinker who considers both nuances and "the bigger picture." You are an independent, communication-savvy self-starter who takes initiative—but also doesn't hesitate to ask for help when needed. You are someone who has a personal or professional background in organic agriculture, consumer packaged goods, ethical production, and/or climate and packaging. You are not intimidated by spreadsheets and large amounts of data. You are curious, eager to learn, and willing to "wear different hats", as sustainability is cross-functional work.
The Task At Hand: As a Public Benefit Corporation and B Corp, we are dedicated to advancing social and environmental sustainability throughout our business. This internship will be focused on internal and external sustainability communications, as well as sustainability data management and reporting related to packaging and other ESG initiatives.
Effective communication is critical for a strong sustainability program. When done right, it can build credibility and loyalty among stakeholders and help drive support for a company’s sustainability initiatives. This intern will craft a variety of impact communications to increase internal understanding of our sustainability initiatives, and to engage our customers and the public about our sustainability and impact work. Diligent data management is equally important, as it drives informed decision-making, helps us track progress toward strategic goals, and supports accurate reporting and regulatory compliance. This intern will support collecting and preparing data for required sustainability reporting and have opportunities to help develop and improve our internal data management systems. The core focus of this internship will be around data and communications, but you will gain exposure to the many cross-functional mechanisms of sustainability and get to support other projects related to our mission.
In This Role, You Will: • Support the Sustainability Department's Overarching Strategy: o Conduct competitive analyses to inform department strategy on topics ranging from climate action plans, and ESG disclosure, to effective sustainability communications tactics and more. o Conduct desktop research as necessary on a variety of sustainability topics such as packaging policy, donation outlets in agricultural communities, cooler recycling programs, and strategies for scope 3 decarbonization. • Internal & External Communications: o Develop engaging internal multimedia education materials on foundational topics such as organic agriculture, packaging & circularity, and more. o Develop effective external-facing communications via blogs and social posts. Working with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and execute in coordination with relevant team members. • Data Organization and Analysis: o Support the cross-functional team to establish automatic reporting capabilities. o Update all packaging & raw material data records as new information comes in. o Develop data visualizations for key initiatives. o Support with ESG and other sustainability reporting. • Other tasks as assigned: We are a fast-growing emerging brand; being flexible and willing to wear many hats is a must. • At the end of the internship, you’ll be asked to share a 5–10 minute presentation on one thing you worked on during your internship here, what you learned, and how you hope to apply any learnings from your time here toward your future career.
In This Role, You’ll Bring With You: • Currently enrolled in graduate school and pursuing a degree(s) in Communications, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Marketing, or a related field • A track record of working independently to complete projects • The ability to effectively work in a remote environment and navigate ambiguity • Experience and savvy with spreadsheets; experience with Power BI is a plus • Strong attention to details • Experience distilling complex topics into digestible communications • Clear and organized writing capabilities and an ability to adapt to different audiences • Experience storytelling with video and multimedia, a plus • Genuine passion for improving childhood nutrition for a healthier and happier planet • Desire to contribute to a dynamic high-growth, purpose-driven work environment • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Outlook, Slack, and other professional platforms • Up to 10% travel required: Although this role is a remote work-from-home position, we “Farmers” do meet as a company and/or as a department a few times a year. Anticipate possible travel up to a few times each quarter • Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguity, deeply understand business needs, develop a cohesive strategy, and make decisions requiring a high level of judgment • Must reside in the United States to be considered for this position • Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position • Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire to be considered for this position
Compensation: • This role pays $22.00 per hour • This is a part-time, hourly internship, not to exceed 29 hours per week • We anticipate this intern will work 12-16 hours per week during the school semester, and 29 hours per week during the summer • Estimated Duration: May 2025 to November 2025 (or six months from the date of hire)
Additional: • 401(k) with 4% Employer Match • Employee Discounts and quarterly Farm-to-Fridge home deliveries • Cell and Internet Stipend • Paid Volunteer Time Off • And so much more!Who We Are Our Purpose: Drive systemic improvement in childhood nutrition for a healthier, happier, and more equitable world.
