The Supervisor, Referral & Document Management - Remote leads a small team of employees responsible for referral and document management on a Territory level for the consolidated team. Collaborates with internal and external partners to ensure appropriate clinical documentation is received to prevent delays in patient care. Provides support to the local clinics and consolidated teams to ensure documentation meets the compliance requirements. Assists the Mgr, Referral & Document Management to optimize workflows to enhance productivity and timely patient access to healthcare products and services as well as positive patient interactions. Will work on referral and document management tasks as needed.
This role will be supporting the Mid-states region. All candidates are eligible to apply. Preferred candidates will have knowledge of the Mid-States payer knowledge and office administrative experience.
Your Impact
Referral Management
- Ensures that employees are properly capturing and tracking electronic referrals.
- Ensures that employees appropriately triage and track Hospital, VA, and Same Day requests.
Document Management – ensures referral & document management employees are trained in and follow the correct workflow, process & procedures around:
- Incoming patient care documentation review and appropriate filing into patient chart.
- Timely communication to clinics for hospital call faxes
- Send out attestations to physician when required.
- Worklog review and document requests
- Work admin pending and request required documents.
- Taks appropriate verification teams
- Follow-up on requested documents
- Communicate with office when further information is required.
- Communicate with office and update when admin is complete.
- Communicates with external partners to ensure documentation requests are received.
- Educates external partners on documentation standards and facilitates updates to documentation when needed.
Document Review/Audit – ensures referral & document management employees are trained in and follow the correct workflow, process & procedures around:
- Review of documentation to ensure it meets needs of payer and medical policy.
- Verification of diagnosis codes on patient billing is accurate and reimbursable.
- Communicates with clinician when coding issues occur.
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in accounting, finance and/or healthcare management preferred.
- Knowledge of best practices related to referral and document management.
- Minimum of 6 years insurance verification and/or benefits experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience hiring, supervising, training and coaching others. Supervising/managing experience in a multi-site environment preferred.
- Experience with Nextgen Electronic Health Record and Practice Management Systems preferred.
Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.

- Working knowledge of HIPAA and other medical insurance regulations and terminology for private payer, state and federal plans including coding, billing, and reimbursement protocols
- Working knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, HCPC/CPT and other coding
- Proficient computer software, such as MS Word, Excel, and automated billing systems
- Able to use various type of office equipment, such as, facsimile machines, calculator, postage machine, copiers, etc.
- Knowledge of state, federal and regional collection, and reimbursement laws
- Must have an enthusiastic and positive attitude.

Salary range of $60,600 to $91,000 per year + 10% annual bonus potential. This pay range is posted to comply with wage transparency laws. Hanger salary ranges vary based on skill, ability, knowledge, geographic location and other variables
