State locations and specifics are subject to change as our hiring requirements shift.   About the opportunity:

The HIM Coding Operations Supervisor oversees the coding operations department including personnel and resources which support proper coding of Vail Health and related entity medical records consistent with the standards of The Joint Commission, Medicare Conditions of Participation, HIPAA, and hospital policies.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Mountain Standard Time.

What you will do:
  1. Oversees the daily coding operations for the Vail Health and maintains key performance indicators established in collaboration with the HIM Coding Manager equal to or better than the top 25th percentile of national benchmarks.
  2. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, orientation, training of new staff and completing performance reviews.
  3. Identifies labor needs, organizes staff to meet needs of the department, and assists HIM Coding Manager in preparing position justifications and descriptions.
  4. Monitors coding staff productivity and reports trends to HIM Coding Manager.
  5. Supervises all coding activities regardless of whether coding is performed by providers or coding staff (in-house or outsourced) and assists the coding department managers in monitoring and reporting the accuracy of coding, addressing coding deficiencies and providing education.
  6. Monitors the timeliness of coding to ensure the DNFC is maintained within the key performance indicators for those accounts that are not lacking required documentation. Follows the protocol for dropping accounts when a query is outstanding, resubmitting accounts when query responses or additional documentation is received following claim drop, and collaborating with other revenue cycle departments as necessary.
  7. Endeavors to maintain staff engagement and satisfaction scores for responsible departments based on periodic internal surveys at or above the stated organizational goal.
  8. Continuously seeks opportunities for different and innovative approaches to addressing organizational problems and opportunities and advances one's education to ensuring competency in supervising a state-of-the art HIM Coding Operations department.
  9. Demonstrates privacy compliance through exemplary HIPAA day-to-day practice.
  10. Role models the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Three (3) years facility and/or professional production coding experience; required.
  • One (1) year of leadership experience preferred.
License(s):

Certification(s):

One of the following certifications required:

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS/CCS-P)
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Computer / Typing:
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records - Must possess Microsoft® skills with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Must possess the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.   Education:
  • Graduate of a coding certificate program, associate or bachelor’s degree in health information technology, or other allied health field required.

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.

Hourly Pay:$32.10—$45.85 USD Apply
