Position Overview

The Supervisor of Attendance Services is responsible and accountable for overseeing overall school attendance, leading strategic initiatives to improve attendance rates, and reducing unexcused absences. This role involves managing a team of professionals responsible for truancy prevention, attendance tracking, communication, and reporting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a passion for ensuring students' regular attendance in school.


Essential Position Functions

  • Supervise and lead the team responsible for truancy prevention, attendance tracking, communication, and reporting.

  • Oversee daily family contact to ensure logging in, addressing excessive absences, and explaining associated consequences.

  • Develop and conduct training sessions for team members to enhance their understanding of attendance policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with the academic team to create tailored interventions for students experiencing attendance difficulties.

  • Participate in meetings with school administrators to discuss attendance trends, concerns, and proposed solutions.

  • Implement consistent and effective automated communication strategies to increase attendance rates and achieve attendance goals.

  • Maintain detailed records of excused absences, interventions, and early intervention procedures.

  • Generate attendance reports for administration, providing regular updates on attendance data.

  • Develop and implement procedures to support and enhance student attendance.

  • Communicate professionally with families to address attendance-related concerns/complaints.

  • Ensure attendance records and reports are accurate, following district policies and state laws.

  • Collaborate with PEIMS/Data Manager to process records for truancy prevention and maintain a log of students with truancy concerns.

  • Coordinate PEIMS information with relevant stakeholders and maintain accurate absence codes in the Student Information System.

  • Utilize various software applications, including Zoom, Google Workspace, learning management systems, MS Excel, and MS Word to enhance attendance services.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring the smooth operation of attendance-related functions within the school.


Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in computer software and applications

  • Strong work ethic and team player mentality

  • Knowledge and understanding of state rules and regulations regarding student attendance and accounting procedures, including the Texas Student Attendance Handbook.

  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Experience with basic audit procedures is preferred. 

  • Patience when handling student, parent, and community inquiries

  • Knowledge of record maintenance processes

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

  • Experience using student information systems and databases.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Zoom, Google Workspace, learning management systems, MS Excel, and MS Word.

  • Familiarity with the Texas Student Attendance Accounting Handbook (SAAH).

  • Experience with the Ascender Student Information System is preferred.

  • Ability to pass required background checks.


Education & Certification Requirements
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
